Well consider this, programs from APR and others do have the ability for you to toggle the software. You could talk to the shops to find out what their take is on "hideability."

Nowadays it's just a flash through the port. I know in the past, if you did anything via the odbII port it logged the user and they could tell if it was a show by the id or someone using a device like VAG-COm or similar.

Usually with chipping my best suggestion is to drive the car until you feel like it has no power then upgrade. Extends the enjoyment time by far.

Lastly, there are plenty of examples of people who have the software with no issues. Of course it will only take one drivetrain issue to create a potential problem.

I would not do any "trial" software flash's.  If you would like to chip the car then do it.  There are ways to switch back and forth between performance files and stock files.  This can protect your warranty and give you the fun you are looking for.
