Bicycle Riders: Weekly rides
« on: April 23, 2007, 04:51:47 PM »
Since we have a lot of riders here, I wanted to post a sticky for weekly ride planning.

If you know of a ride or are looking to ride and want some company, post it here.

This week: April 23-29:

Wednesday - Urban Assault 6:30 at Bed, Bath and Beyond at Cherry Creek Mall.  MTB recommended.  You need a helmet and rear blinky.

For more on this ride, PM Velo or me (ColoradoB5).

Urban Assault as in jumping off things and standard causing of mathem?

Or is this just riding through the town, etc?  I ask because my urban assault bike isn't fun for riding any kind of distance.

man, I miss those.  I remember the one we went on a long time ago.  That was a blast....and we started from the same spot if I remember correctly.

Can't make wedneday, or anytime soon, working a buttload of overtime these days.  Not to mention I am about 40-50lbs out of shape

The urbans I do are usually a tour around downtown with some fun stuff too.  I usually like to ride down the steps of the governor's building on Broadway.  They are about the same distance apart as the wheels on a mountain bike.

I don't have my slicks here yet, but usually, I will put on slicks for this ride.

We usually do a pretty good distance too, 10-20 miles, so Spicoli, that would be your call.

I am going to make the date above tentative, since the weather on Thursday might be better.

In general, let's just use this thread for any bike related GTGs we have coming up and if it gets busy, we can separate it into individual threads.

I'm definitely in! Unfortunately not this week though, getting Lasik on Thursday, so I'll be taking it easy.

Good responses guys.  Hopefully we can make this a regular thing either for road, trail or urban rides.

Based on the weather today, I am leaning towards cancelling the ride for tomorrow.  Some of the weather cams show the speer canal trail is underwater!

I so need to get back on my bike, and stop procrastinating.  Doesn't help that I have worked the past 19 nights in a row :(...and have a minimum of 7 more before I get a night off....

So the weather looks like it will turn out well for this afternoon so the ride is on.  I will probably be at Cherry Creek about 5:30-5:45.

If anyone wants to meet up with us en route, call me at 720-318-5177 on my cell.  Alan and I are meeting 6ish at the Cherry Creek Bed, Bath and Beyond.

Well, that was my first urban since probably 2005 or 4.  Denver is such a great town fro riding around.  We even stopped for beer and pizza at Proto's  not far from REI.

I think next time I will spend a little more time playing around in the skate park on my bike.  Any one up for a ride next week?

I think for this Sunday, I may try and do a trail ride.

I think I may only have time to do a ride tomorrow or maybe even just a hike, since I have some house shopping to do.

Here are a couple of pics of Velo and I on our ride last Wednesday:

Good question.  I am house shopping, getting busy at work and the family is here, so for me probably a few weeks from now.

Winston, would this maybe change your mind- you know, if I can go now? (not that I'm a reason anybody should do anything, but since I'm not going to be here for much longer...)

LOL, Pat and I were trying to schedule an Urban this week, but my dance card is pretty full, so I think we are going to try and do Waterton Canyon this Saturday morning pretty early.  Around 8am.

If anyone is game to meet us, let me know and well plan to meet at the parking lot at the bottom of the 6 mile dirt road.

Here's a writeup on it:
