E85 Testing....Started

I am going to start testing E85 in my car.  I will post results as they come in.

**This is being done for performance reasons only.  Not because I am a lover of the earth and want to end our dependence on oil**

It will be.  Injectors have been changed and the GIAC Race Gas file will be used to start with.

Very cool!!  I was hearing something on the radio on the way in this morning about how people were destroying their motors using E85 because of high gas prices without making the necessary modifications ::)

I have been reading up on it a lot as well, I was hopping a simple jet change in the carb in the Scout would allow me to switch. It seems straight forward, bigger jets and some timing adjustments.

My other concern is corrosion and gas line life expectancy. Since it is alcohol, any rubber fuel lines are at risk. I also have a poly tank, which i think would be fine. However, things like the sender and float could end up rusting maybe?

I may just try some mixes, there are some gas stations not too far away, maybe go half and half and net save some money. I just don't drive the Scout that much since it is so inefficient.

I'd love to get some boost from the octane increase in the Audi, again, concerned about the impacts on the engine and fuel delivery components.

Most fears about corrosion and other risks with E85 are blown way out of proportion.

Yeah, I guess I could have prefaced my post. I agree that they are, buuuuut, I think some of the SAE standards weren't in place when either of my vehicles were built. ;)

I worry more about the Scout because it sits. The Audi gets driven...ooh I wonder if my BMW could be converted.
