The Toureg is nice looking.  I have no idea how they porked it up to that weight though.  It'd be like towing a trailer with two dirtbikes on it all the damn time.  I'd have an S6 Avant first.   I also reckon that the interior is as utilitarian as other VW's, short of the Phaeton (the Phaeton I sat in at the Autostadt is why I sold the Passat and bought an A8 BTW.)

agreed....you need more back up than that.  Have you looked at reliability,
value, economy, or is it totally a status thing?  Performance thing?  Enquiring
minds want to know :)

I want an quality off road vehicle to use occasionally for moving several adults and kids to go off road and camping.  My perfect garage would be to have a Land Cruiser that can take me almost anywhere (and back) reliably, where I have plenty of aftermarket to play with, the B5 Passat for fun and economy and have something else with good economy like a B6 A4 Avant.

I learned my lesson about having the right vehicle back in 2004.

So at this point, it's kind of looking like the T and A are out!

Right now, she is seriously considering a FZJ80 Land Cruiser.  I think she would prefer an Lexus 450, but they are more rare and frankly have a couple "edgy/new for the time" technologies on them that I find undesirable.
