RMCB5 Family Four Wheeling Day
« on: July 30, 2007, 06:11:15 PM »
Yep, you read right, a wheeling day. Since some members have rigs for off roading and with Andrew's latest addition to his stable we thought it would be a good idea to have a little day trip.

Cole offered up the idea of Saints John, which looks to be a pretty easy route and should provide ample scenery. This would be a family friendly trip, so an easy trail and kids shouldn't be uncomfortable.

As always with any sort of wheeling no matter how "easy" a trail is inclement weather can always increase the difficulty and since many trails reach high altitudes make sure you and your family are prepared for varying temperatures and weather conditions.

The only date conflicts I can think of immediately are:

Sun Aug 26th - DATR
Sat & Sun Sept 8-9 - Colorado Treffen

Please offer up date suggestions and we can get this planned out. Also, please post up if you would have room for passengers (comfortably) so if some folks want to come that don't wheel we can offer up some seats.

weekends between now and 9/16 are pretty hellish for me.  Days I cannot make it are:

8/4 - BMW 100K ride
Saturday Mornings in August - Kids swim lessons
8/26 - DATR
9/15 - birthday stuff
9/16 - friends kids birthday stuff

So, basically I could do a Sunday other than DATR weekend.

Just to toss a date out there, how about 8/19?

Availability of seats for me will depend on whether the family comes along or not.  I'll ask later today and will get back to everyone.

Well, after the weekend of 8/4, the only weekend I have free isn't until 9/22, so you best not plan around me :(

I think the Scout will be ready for wheeling by the 19th, it can probably go now, but the carb I have really sucks ass. I am hoping to put in a replacement in the coming weeks. Since we wont be doing anything challenging the Scout could probably go with the current carb.

Now my biggest hangup with my "open" weekends has to do with our kitty situation. Since one of the little guys is on his way out we are going to be iffy on things for the next month as is, so whatever date works for everyone else I will do my best to make it work for us.

Although late September isn't so bad? I'd still be up for it then, plus it buys me more "gettin' more work done" time. Looks like it would work for Andrew as well. Works with Ian's busy schedule too.

I think I over used the word "work" in this post.

I like the description of the saints johns trail.  that is probably a good one.

odds are if stock vehicles are coming along we should avoid the nearby to there wheeler lake trail.  here is a link to some local rovers that visited there this weekend and some nice 4x4 pics:

and some trail details:

Keep in mind that some of these trails (like the one in mention) are above 12,000'  So "Late" September might block it in snow.

Need a Holley carb?  I replaced mine with an Edelbrock not too long ago.  You're welcome to it, it could use a rebuild.

No thanks, I can't wait to toss my holley in the garbage. I still have another holley I could rebuild, but I am going a different route.

I am down for the 19th.  Saints John sounds like a nice laid back trail that maybe Jen would even go on.  Do we need a 4x4 garage day for anyone?  LOL.

I have been in 4x4x garage day mode for like 3 weeks now. Stop by anytime. The Scout is getting mucho work, I guess.

you sound like me.  every day is a 4x4 garage day.

I need to switch over and do a motorcycle detail day sometime before Saturday though.  too many bugs on the bike that I need to wash off before the ride.  (where I will just put more bugs back on it.)

Me too! My hope is to wash and wax it tonight or tomorrow, I also need to gas it up, check fluids and all that crap. I do have a new addition to the bike...a sheepskin butt pad!

So the 19th is coming up this weekend.  Are we still planning on the 4x4 day?

If so, where?  Saints/John still?

I can't do this weekend, I'm not ready. I know there can be snow in late September, but I think that's going to be the best bet for me.

This weekend will be tough for me too - I need to start cleaning the Audi for DATR.  Lets go with September.  While there is risk of snow, there is also a good possibility of lovely weather.    Saints John is still good for me

Please don't wait to go on my account.  The FJ60 is almost prepped to sell so I can't count on having it then anyway.  I will look forward to something in the spring when I have a replacement though.

I think that will be just fine and dandy with us. I doubt I will have my new carb, but again if I'm not sticking my nose up to the sky I should be okay.

Well the Scout is being crabby. I guess I ahve a few weeks to get things sorted out.

It appears my timing is way off and I may be having some other fuel delivery related issues.
