...this might make me rethink my position on the latest BMW 3-Series:

but it is still ugly.   :(

I'll still take an RS4 instead, it looks better, inside and out, and is more practical with the 2 extra doors and 2 extra driven wheels.

I actually like the looks of this M3, at least in the pictures.  So far it's the first of the new 3-Series that I actually like.

I like it a lot, have always liked the M3's...  Agree with Andrew, I would rather have the RS4 with the extra doors as well as AWD for Colorado though ;)

That's hot. I love M's and have loved the new style since they came out with it on all models (M5 being drool-inducing).

I'd still take an RS4 though.

good lord that's hot!
But I must admit that BMW's styling looks dated relatively quickly.  The interiors looks really bland and uninspiring.
I think Audi's styling is the most timeless and even models a few generations old still look great.

That M3 would give the RS4 a challenge if it had AWD, it's already on the 328xi and a 335xi (the awesome twin turbo V6) coupe is rumoured to be introduced.

First off, why is this topic locked?

Second, there is a 335xi, so am I totally missing something?

I was at Murray BMW last Saturday.
All of the 2007 3-series coupes are sold out, they don't even have a demo to test drive, only a 328i convertible which I took for a spin.  Actually all of the 2007's are sold out in the country, and they are taking orders for the 2008's, which all of their deliveries are sold out until November, but they will have a demo available in a week or two.
They have also taken deposits for the 335xi which will be available after the New Year.  There is nothing on the BMWusa.com site yet for the 335xi.

My impressions of the 328i coupe is rather mixed.  The handling is awesome and the performance is pretty good, but what BMW isn't?  The styling is rather bland and uninspiring, especially the interior which looked almost unchanged from the previous model -- there is nothing special about it and looks almost dated.  My tester came with some really ugly looking glossy wood trim which looks really out of place, cheap and not very german.  The brushed aluminum trim is the only way to go.
Another gripe is the engine start button, which I've found totally unnecessary and rudundant.  You still have to push the key into the dash and hold the start button down until you hear the engine start up.  There is a Comfort Access option which allows you to open the doors and start the engine without using your key (as long it's anywhere on your body), but that's another few hundred dollars amongst the very lengthly option list (another gripe).

The upcoming 135i should be a screamer.  It has the same twin turbo V6 in a much smaller and lighter package, only if you could get past the oddly stubby styling and cheap and spartan interior.  It will also be affordably priced at just under $30,000 -- R32 and WRX STi watch out!
