Possible lincoln, NE show and autocross
« on: October 22, 2007, 12:35:41 AM »
x-post from Union 1609, I'm planning on going and it looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. Seeing if maybe any of you guys would want to road-trip up there with the Union guys.

Quote
Guys, this is just a throw-out to get the minds stirring for next year.
Was on a post on the VWVortex from a NE dub-owner who came to DATR 2007:
* http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3477287

He's wanted to do a show in his area and wanted to get a lot of response.
Would it be something you would consider for maybe mid / late July 2008.
Reply / vote here, and place your two cents on the Vortex thread if you so desire.

EDIT: Now it's looking for like June 2008

actually the new site is www.dub-center.com. Most of that info is old, but here is the skinny

an auto-x is in the process as well as a possible track day.

So here is the deal, most of this is taken off of what the Union is planning on doing, as of now, they have about 16 planning on going. So, we can join with them, or do our own thing. It looks like Edition 719 has some interest as well.

The Deal

Date: June 15th, 2008

Where: Pioneer Park, Lincoln NE

Pioneers Park
3201 S Coddington Ave
Uninc Lancaster County (Lincoln), NE

What: A car show much like DATR, except with people from all over the nation. There will be over 50 show categories, and I am working on getting an autocross event going the day before.

Who: Fellow Dubbers from Texas, Colorado, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana

The Drive

total mileage one-way: 489 miles
total expected time one-way: 7.5 - 8+ hours expecting one stop for food, gas, etc.

I-76 east to I-80
I-80 east to Homestead Expressway

Approximate Costs
registration for show class / events ($10-15 show fee, all on-lookers are free)
gas money (looking at ~$100)
two-way walkie-talkie (?)
lodging ($250+)
food ($150+)
drinks ($25+)
track day (~$100) - begun to work out details @ MPH
memorabilia (that's up to you)

We are probably going to want to use walkie-talkies to communicate as cell service on the drive is is bad at best, so budget for some good walkie-talkies.

The days to take off:
I am thinking Thurs the 12th through Mon the 16th. this gives us time for the drive up, road course on Friday for those who want to join us, Saturday for detailing and checking out the town, Sunday for the show, and Monday for the drive back.

The Track Day/Auto-X
Erik is in the process of obtaining a track day for the trip up. It will be at Motorsport Park Hastings and will involve a class for the beginners and then head out to the track, and the experienced need no class, and will obviously head out to the track for their own fun.

It is a full-on road course, and I, for one am really looking forward to seeing what I can do on a course like that.

The auto-x is in the works. It would be on the same day as the show, the location will probably be about 3.5mi. from the show. This is all the info we have for now as we are still working with the Nebraska Region SCCA for the final details.

The official site:
http://www.dub-center.com

If I am missing anything, or if you have any thoughts, let me know!

Thanks to Erik for doing most of the leg work on this and Mike (jettalvr41) for thinking this up and organizing it!

Glad I could help, even in a little way ;)  I hope the autocross can get worked out as that will be the only reason for me to make the trip out - my car doesn't show well.

News on the autocross/track day. There will be a track day on Friday, the 13th at Motor park Hastings. It will be $180 and includes a class and certification.

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3600477

on the autocross, it will be happening about 7.5 mi. from the show location. The track that they setup is about 1mi. long. So this year, the emphasis will be on the show, but if you want to go to the autocross, it will be happening. If you want more info, PM me.
