Insane, yes! I need a <$1000 asap
« on: November 01, 2007, 12:30:57 AM »
Long story short, we have some vanity plates we don't want to lose. Since both the dub and the Audi are financed in my name the only way to get the plates on another car in our possession is to get Renee's name on a title.

Anyway, with our current stable I would have to refinance the cars or put Renee on the title of the Scout. If I do that she has threatened to sell it, so not in my best interest. :D

So I need something that runs, doesn't matter what kind of trany, but for <$1000 my guess is I will want to avoid an auto? If it is reliable enough and economical I might just use it for commuting. :)

Toss out some ideas and links. I am hammering CL right now looking for stuff.

title =| the finance agreement.  you can, IIRC, add her to the title without changing the finance arrangement.  I think my wife is on the title to the BMW, despite me being the only one on the note.

Bellco wont allow it, nor will VW Credit from contacting them both about this earlier in the year. Well not without redoing the financing. The Passat is gone in 9 months no matter what, so no way we are changing anything there and I could refi the Audi.

I am eyeing a few cars right now that are a little more, but could have some future potential. :)

so, you are buying a car just for a vanity plate?

I say, find an old beater VW bug, classic, and you can restore it if you want.  Not sure on pricing though, but if I were looking for something cheap and fast, that would be it since they are easy to work on, and you can get newly rebuilt motors for around $1500 or so.

I will look on Cars.com for ya

Haha, I checked all those out. We need to be able to title it right away and I would prefer something that we can hopefully get something back out of in a year or so when we finally get another car for Renee.

I found a couple Honda's, dubs and an Audi I have inquired about. Some are over what I have budgeted for this. I started thinking that if we can find something decent enough I will commute with it until the Passat goes bye bye. Then we can get her a new car and sell this future beater.

I think a squareback would be just freaking awesome. Though I should probably be careful not to by something that is a blatant future project. Renee would be really upset to loose her plates as is and to compound that with buying a car only certain people will buy might anger her. :D

I'm heading to bed for the night. Gotta make a couple calls in the morning and we'll see where it goes. Saw a sweet little GTI out there too...Auto-X? :)

Delorted!

I saw that Volvo last night. I was actually after a Civic SI believe it or not but I found out it sold. Yeah that's right...a Honda. :)

Got a few emails out to some dub owners. I need to call the motor vehicle folks this morning to see if anything has changed from earlier this year and to make sure we will still have them since they are 2 months expired.

haha, Renee sounds like Betsy.  She tolerates my addiction, but every time I tell her I found another project car, she just looks at me, squints her eyes and walks away quietly.  I get a shudder down my spine when she does that.

I keep trying to convince her to let me get a classic MINI and drop a vtec motor in it....but she keeps saying....well....nothing, just that frigid look ;)

Sweet, they say we have a year from expiration, which is now actually about 9-10 months. So we'll start looking come Spring. Renee was getting pretty upset so I was acting fast if need be.

So if you have vanity plates, Arapahoe County says....one year from expiration. Just as an FYI.

It's the one Renee has had for years, it is from when she had her beloved 1987 Mercedes 190E MNTGOAT

The car was white handled so well and was fun in the mountains it reminded us a mountain goat. :)
