Dizzle's VAG report. Neet help on the error codes
« on: February 14, 2008, 12:41:53 AM »
I thought I would start a new tread to focus on the VAG scan that we ran today of Tiff's A4.  Any input would be helpful.  The one mistake I made was not clearing the codes when the scan was done.  For all I know some of these could be old errors.

Here it is, I marked the items in red that need to be looked at:

Thanks Dave. I know the fog light code is due to the rock hitting the light and breaking the glass and bulb on day 2-3 of ownership :(

The rest I would love feedback on.

Dubaudi give me a call when you get over to McDonald. I am only about 10 minutes from there.

Yeah, I was going to say, the bulb code should just say "it's out" but whatever ;D

Your alarm triggered ones are what I get anytime the my alarm goes off. Door Contact Switch is the handle. Someone could have been yanking on the doors trying to get in or something. Tilt sensor is the when the car's put at an odd angle (think someone trying to tow it) I get this if I pull back and forth to hard when the car's off and parked.

Open or Short to B + or whatever that one is...I have this issue currently with my headlight bulbs that are out. So my initial thought would be a bad electrical switch (which one? no idea :))

Was the car towed at any time that you are aware of?

Thanks guys.

I have only had the car two weeks, in that time it hasn't been towed, but who knows before that. I do know that it was maintained by an Audi delaership as they had a ton of maintenace records for the car when I called about the VIN. Everything had been done on schedule and all but one recall had been done.

Sorry to hear you've been having so much trouble since taking ownership Dizzle.  Luckily, you have the help and knowledge of all the wonderful people here. Unfortunately for me, I wasn't aware of rmcb5 when I purchased my B5.  I basically threw an inordinate amount of money away for repairs, that should've been done by the dealer before the car was ever put on the lot....so thanks McDonald Audi for taking my money and charging me out the a## for said repairs....bastards.... :P (I'm not bitter....okay, maybe a little)

Cheers to APS though!  Without their services and HONEST expertise/advice, I would've dumped the car by now and made the next owner very happy!

Hope things turn around for you-

So far the problems have been minor, just headaches due to timing. Swapped out all the coil packs yesterday and the car drives like a dream now.

I think I got lucky that this one was taken care of, the coil packs...well it was just their time to go I suppose.

Yea, I guess it was just the luck of the draw for me.  Carfax checked out fine, mileage vs. age of car was good, (initially) drove great, price was good (if everything was mechanically sound like I had thought), all maintenance performed by McDonald and Prestige (which again, sounded good at first, but now I know that service at the dealership sucks!)....but I think it boiled down to an owner with very poor driving habits/capabilities, in turn aging the car prematurely.

Coilpacks are common. I had 2 go out on my A4 a month after I bought it. You just expect them to fail periodically. They're cheap though so that's a plus.

Yeah, that is what I read so wasn't too worried and Randy helped me out over the phone. The dealership is paying for the parts so that is cool, I am not out any money for the problem.

I am wondering if those codes might be old and were never cleared. Would love to get them cleared, give it a week or so and see what comes back if anything.

Hopefully I will have my own VAG by the end of the month so will see what happens.

It's funny how your car can tell you a story...too bad it can't tell you exactly what happened.

Looks like the battery died.  Also, it probably sat on the lot for a while, and someone set the alarm off a number of times trying the door handles, set the alarm off, and then tried to start it or was sitting in the car when or while it was going off.  Those will clear and shouldn't come back.  Probably someone just messing around before you bought it, or on a test drive.  The tilt error is probably from a tow or transport.

The air quality sensor seems like it is bad, and your climate control may be stuck in recirc mode until it's fixed - it switches from fresh air to recirc when that sensor detects too much "pollution".

It was said before, but I would clear them and then do another scan.
