computer help needed
« on: May 01, 2008, 06:19:38 PM »
i had/have a nasty virus and wanted to upgrade my HD on my desktop. I had a 160 gig HD and now i have a Sata 500 Gig HD.

What i want to do is this, make the Sata 500 HD the only hard drive in the computer with XP. I want to wipe out the 160 HD and make it an external hard drive like my other external hard drives that i have laying around my pc.

i have a PCI Serial ATA and Ultra ATA RAID Controller Card that i bought from microcenter to put into the pc.
The cable to hook up from the card to the Sata HD.
I have a Sata power source from my existing pc power supply.

I never learned how to do things from scratch. Only to add to what i have existing on my pc.

Last time i tried to do something, i fried the hard drive, motherboard and power supply. I dont feel the need to do that again. lol

Do you have all the software necessary or are you wanting to transfer from the old HDD to the new?  I can give you a hand with this.

i have all the software necessary. i have the installation disc for the sata card. i have the installation disc for windows xp. i just dont know how to use them.

i have already transferred what i wanted to keep from the current hard drive to my external hard drive. i have a terabyte of external hard drive space, so i do not have to worry about deleting something nor take up time to transfer it because its already done.

i appreciate the offer Ian.  :)
