Hooka chamber?  Or is it a paint booth at home?  The latter is my guess but the former sounds like more fun!

Well, I go tthe first three coats on the spoiler.  The HVLP sprayer works really well.  I took a lot of pictures and plan to do a writeup for CB5 and our site as well.

I will be open for painting as soon as I make sure I know how it will turn out!

well Winston, after you saw what a mess my rear spoiler has turned into, you know I need some help. I'd really like to get that stupid thing on sometime this year. I've only had it since November and I have spent more on paint than I did for the dumb spoiler itself!  :x   Any suggestions would be much appriciated.

well Chas if you want to bring it over sometime after work or on a weekend morning, we can set up the booth and put some of your spray paint into my gun to see if that helps any...

Also, when we talked about this before, did I ask you if you primed it?

Yeah, I primed it. But that is the cause of the issues I am having, I think. Now that I have looked around in my garage and through my painting supplies I noticed that I had two cans of sandable primer in the garage. One almost empty and one half full. The half full can is what I have been using. And I think there is a issue between that can and the paint. The primer I used in the past is different from the newer stuff. So I think I will wait a little longer for a really nice, wind free day and then try again. Of course with a new can of primer.

BTW, what name brand primer did you use? And where did you get the paint you are spraying?

Chas, I didn't prime my spoiler again, since when I sanded it down, I sanded down to the original primer and just painted over it again.

I ordered the paint from www.paintscratch.com  They are good folks and they have a very informative site with good details on painting.

OK, I did check out that site and they did have the color for my car. It's kinda pricey though. They wanted $29.50 for a 12.5 oz can, plus another $9 for the clearcoat. Plus shipping costs. VW gets $22 for a smaller can but that includes the clearcoat as well. And I already have one can of the stuff. I just don't know what I'm going to do at this point. Maybe I'll look at a local automotive paint shop and see what they can do for me.    :?

Chas, I got the 16 oz. basecoat (1 Pint).  It costed me $80, but I only used about an 1/8th of it for my spoiler, so I figure it should last me througn most paint projects, unless I do something big (like the whole car, which is not likely).

The spray cans probably do not paint as well either and use more paint in the process.  If you got the 2 oz. basecoat bottle, it should be enough.

So I have been working on the finish and although I am still not satisfied with the sheen, it is getting better the more I do to it.

Here are the rest of my pictures.  Once I get it nice and shiny, I will complete my writeup on this procedure.

Hey Winston, I ordered a 2 oz bottle of the basecoat, clearcoat and primer from Paintscratch.com. So, do you think we can get together sometime and have a painting party? I'm really tired of trying to do this Zendar rear spoiler myself and need some help. I'm going to strip it all down (again   ) and maybe you can help me out.

Let me know!  :-D

Sure Chas, maybe one night next week.  It should only take us a couple of hours to get all of the base coats on.  Then you can bring it back another night for the clearcoats.

You will want to wet sand with 1000 grit in between and maybe do some rubbing compound and tack cloth.  I'm still figuring out the process my self...

I'll get started on sanding down the shit paint right now. I'll probably take it down to the first layers of primer that I originally put on way back in January.   :-(    I guess the paint will be here later this week, maybe. Not real sure of that though. We'll see.

Yeah Rusty, Winston is the painting guy here in this group. He has been doing tail lights for a while now. I'm sure he could do an even better job now that he has a real paint gun and his own booth.  :onfire:

After I get my CFI, would you mind helping me with it?
