Dang! Second Bilstein Blown
« on: May 16, 2008, 02:10:59 PM »
I've had my second Bilstein Sport shock blown in a year now.  This on is the rear.

This wouldn't be a big deal since they have a lifetime warranty.  The problem is that the extended bolt Neuspeed sent me to be able to fit the swaybar drop link through the shock has seized inside the metal lower shock housing.

Dang.

I have tried everything short of cutting the bolt off and drilling it out to get it, but it's seized into the metal shock boot insert.

*Sigh*

Got heat?

Thanks for the response, Ian.

Heck yeah.  I have a LC, you know.  You can't do anything on those old Cruisers without heat.  I used the MAP gas I got to do my add a leaf install on the FJ60.

The bolt just spins the boot in the lower shock ring, so I'm pretty sure the bolt and metal sleeve it fits into are fused pretty good from the elements.

I have a buddy whose neighbor works on semi's and other heavy equipment.  He's going to see what they use in these circumstances.

Good luck.

I've heard of people getting quality bolts & stuff at AAA Metric Supply.

http://www.aaametric.com/

I've never been there myself, though.

Thanks for the responses fellas.  Grade is definitely what I am going to go for this time around.  FYI, the ones I have are from Neuspeed, so be aware of this when you get parts from them.

Well Home Depot only carries Grade 8 for english sizes, so I am heading to AAAmetric now to get the required bolts.  I'll post when I am done on how they are.
