Not sure how many of you received this notice in the mail. I threw mine away after reading it.
If you didn't get it....this is what it is in summary:
A class action lawsuit basically stating that VW/Audi did not make the equipment available to encode keys for pre 2004 models. Meaning you could only get your key programmed by the dealer which in turn created price gouging and an unfair market practice.
The lawsuit settlement asks that VW/Audi make this equipment readily available for purchase by locksmiths and other like businesses, allow them a dedicated phone line connection for retrieving key codes until at least 2013.
As far as I could tell I could ask to be a part of or not be a part of the lawsuit. In theory I fell under this in two regards, my B5 Passat and C5 A6, neither of which I had to replace keys on.
According to the document, VW/Audi of course claims the equipment was always available. I'm sure it is very costly and most locksmiths wouldn't want to front that money.
Considering the settlement is to just ensure VW/Audi makes the equipment available and to support it I didn't really care to save it or get excited..
