New race video...
« on: August 12, 2008, 07:23:46 PM »
This video is from this past weekend's NASA event (Sunday) at Motorsports Park Hastings (MPH).  Because of rain and no wet race rubber I didn't get to run on Saturday.  They gridded the Sunday Heat Race based on racer's finish on Saturday.  Because of this I started in the 19th grid spot and had to pick my way through traffic which was comprised of cars from 944-Spec, Spec Miata, and Honda Challenge classes.  This isn't as easy off the start as it is at Pueblo since the MPH front straight is about 1/3 the length of Pueblo's.  The GTS class leaders were gridded 3rd and 5th (blue 1967 911 with white stripes and white 1984 VW GTI) because they had rain rubber the day prior.  It sure was fun trying to reel them in as the 911 was able to move into 1st place off the start.

This video is huge since it's the entire race - 550MB .asf MPEG-4.  Please right-click>save as...

Enjoy...I sure did :D

How you might have been just a bit outside of the hp/weight ratio from Todd wanting to win so bad

Entirely possible, but that was a condition well before this past race with the amount of weight we've removed from the car.  We don't really know for sure though as we haven't dyno'd or weighed within the last year.  Fortunately the Series Director isn't too concerned with monitoring as everybody, either above or below, is being moved into the GTS-3 class.

That was cool, I am going to share it with my MINI buddies that do circuits in cali.

Nice and smooth.  Sound does not work on my computer when I watch those, but it was fun watching the boost gauge going all wacky through the corners :)

That is...AWESOME!

That b&w 911 was quick in a straight line but he seemed pretty unsteady in the turns. Definitely an advantage for you. Nice work and what a great finish!

Thanks Jay!  Yah, that 911 was pretty quick.  I honestly thought I was going to be able to get him in the straights...no such luck.  I'll have to have to post the video from the second race on the day where I pass him on the outside of the long left-hand sweeping corner (number 7).

Here's the other video: http://www.wasabiraceteam.com/video/08-10-08MainRace-large.ASF

It's REALLY HUGE (950MB) and there's some foul language on the white flag lap  :-[

They MINI guys love it.  There is one guy, his name is Sid, in Cali, he has a full race prep MINI, older dude, but a great driver.  Not sure what class or organization he runs though.  It says US Touring Car Championship on his windshield banner though.  Anyway, great car.

Awesome!  Thanks John!! USTCC is a "Pro" series sanctioned by NASA (NASA sticker on his front lip), which is what got me interested in road racing in the first place.  Mean looking Mini that one ;)

Time to add a K04!

I sure did!  ;D

We've been talking of adding a K04 and capping the boost to maximize the torque band and keep me in class.

Jon, you should have seen the Cold Stone Creamery Mini at Miller.  It would come to grid with ice cream truck music playing from a loudspeaker in the car.  He would turn it off, race and then turn it back on when he drove through the paddock back to his spot.  It was pretty awesome!  ;D

Thanks Andrew!  It is sooooo much fun out there in wheel-to-wheel racing - I couldn't imagine doing anything else ;) Now if I can just figure out how to get paid for doing it...

Been working on that for a couple years myself and still have no idea!  :(  Let me know if you figure it out though.
