Passat B5/B5.5?
« on: August 21, 2008, 10:45:11 PM »
my mom is looking for a new car and I am trying to point her toward a Passat. I have a couple of questions and since this club was started by B5 owners I figured this would be a good place to start. I was hoping for some general opinions on the car, reliability, W8 vs. V6 vs. V4, gas mileage, etc. Thanks in advance!

There is no V4 just and I4 which is the turbo.  V6 more reliable and parts are way cheaper than the W8.

Best option is the 1.8T passat, either B5 or B5.5.  Only changes between them were cosmetic.

I agree with Jon.  I think that in 2004 the 1.8t was also available with 4-Motion.  That would be the car to get for this area.  Good mileage and all wheel drive should be a combo all VW models come with.  In fact, if my 2000 was available with that I would be driving my car forever instead of planning on going to an A4 Quattro.
