What do YOU do??
« on: March 16, 2004, 08:24:23 PM »
So now that the club is growing I thought it would be good to know what people here do for a living.  After all you never know when you might need some help, not related to cars, and someone here can lend a had.  Who knows we might even be able to help people get new business and make more money to spend on mods. :)

Here I go:

Randy Weber - Insurance Agent for a specialty brokerage specializing in Health Clubs & Fitness Centers.

If any one has insurance related question, I would be happy to give explanations / stratagies on lower rates or how to deal with claims.

I also have a few connections left in the Ski Industry from the old days when I skiied for a living. (Feel free to hate me  :P )

Gregory Harmon- this is kind of a redundant post on my part, but I now work for T-Mobile USA.

Any thing that you need T-Mobile I can most likely help with, but my magic wand only go's so far... I cant make large cell phone bills disapear or any thing like that but if you have questioins feel free to ask, i can most likely help you.

I can also answer your questions on AT&T, Sprint and Verizon, as I used to sell all of those.

Jay (can you guess my last name?) - Web Developer

I develop webs, all over the place.  Kind of like a spider only less agile.

I was formerly an actor and when I was cut out as an extra in my first non-paid appearance as an extra in the made for TV movie Asteroid I gave it up.  Granted I was an actor for about 20 minutes.  So yeah, this is a joke and not real. :)

Damn I'm jealous....a former pro skier!  No, I won't hate you because you're beautiful.  :-)

Well, I quit my day job today (honestly).  I've been working in the financial services industry since I graduated five years ago.  First with Merrill Lynch, then Invesco.  I've been a Team Leader the last three years at Invesco, but now that's over.

Tomorrow I start building my own business as an independent investment advisor.  I'll be the advisor for Larimer County's (Fort Collins') 457 plan, which is kind of like a 401(K) for government employees.  I may also end up as the advior for El Paso County's (Colorado Springs') plan, but that is yet to be determined.  So, if you know of anyone that wants some investment advice, I might be able to help out.

Steve - Engineering Technician - I worked for Intel and now the imfamous Dish Network. Anything electronics I can usually figure out, and if I can't I know someone who can. Not as fancy as most, but it pays the bills, and it keeps me interested in my job, and it pays for my beloved Passat.   :-D

To steal a good line I heard this weekend: "I've had more jobs than George Bush has created since being President".  :P  One of the more unusual jobs I've had was when I cleaned tropical fish tanks for a living.  Now, I'm a code monkey (software engineer) for a small-ish software company downtown.  I work in Java and do mostly back-end server and database type stuff these days.  I've done some web work in the past, but those skills are atrophied.

I think I'm running low on marrow in my metatarsals.  Got any extra laying around in your basement I can have?

Sure, no problem, I have them on deep freeze for longevity....come on over, I'll hook you up.  But in all honesty...for that kinda problem, you should really see a podiatrist...or in your case more specifically, a protologist :D

Mark...Marketing Director for a Civil, Structural, Transportation and Environmental Engineering firm. Basically do a lot of graphic design and develop marketing materials. I also organize, assemble and layout proposals that are submitted to various private, public, governmental, city and county agencies, which lead to work for the firm. I can’t design a bridge, roadway, or building or tell you much about environmental impact assessments, but I can put together an informative package so you’ll hire my firm. I also do a little bit of web design, photography and develop/design our quarterly newsletter, etc…

pat -  sorry i haven't gotten back to you about the ins stuff. I actually keep forgeting to find the paperwork at work. The office has been crazy all week and it is just one thing after another.. I will 'try' and find it tomamrow for you.  the bysis materials are pretty good. freinds of mine have had good success with their matirials.

edit -  here is the link for the place you can take the class to prepare for the exam. As far as i know CO law requires 50 hours of pre-licening education before you cn sit for the exam. This class program at adbanker  fills that requirement.

Hey Pat - the life / health exam is fun

Yes it is 50 hours and then the usual EC of 24 every 24 months, but not the first year.  Are you getting your 6 & & NASD too, or do you already have that?

Better late than never, right? The better question is what does Amanda not do?

IT: I manage desktop support technicians at CU Boulder. We support Mac, PC, Linux, Unix. I am really a mac whore though. I also know quite a bit about web design, some programming, network design etc.

Art: I am an oil painter and printmaker and really would prefer to be doing that full time. I sell a lot of work, and have it all over the place. Right now I'm seeking representation from galleries in Denver. If you want to see some of my stuff, check out my website (that I designed) at http://www.amandaspear.com

Real Estate: Yep, I am a licensed agent for Spear and Company http://www.SpearAndCompany.com (Yes, whole family is in the real estate biz). I work mostly with buyers, my mom takes the listings, and there are 7 other agents. We also are an REO company and work heavily in the area of foreclosures and distress sales... very few companies in colorado are REO, and we end up working with a lot of investors picking up properties.. etc.

I plan to quit IT to do Real Estate full-time this summer, unless the art picks up first...

I could go on, but this post is too long already. ;)

Amanda, your paintings are amazing! I wish I could afford them. I probably could but then I wouldn't have my Passat, so...Wow, very cool! I really like the "walkways to nowhere" painting. Do you ever have paintings on loan to homeowners?

Actually, my firm participates in a "Shows on loan" program where we have artwork displayed in the office. If you were interested in displaying your work here, I can give you some more info.

Hey Kraut-
I already have the S7, 63 and 26.  This other stuff will be a lot of review.  I'm basically just getting the 65 so I can do fee-based business at the request of the client.  A formality really, more than anything.
Insurance will be new to me, but from what everyone tells me it's a piece of cake compared to the 7, 63, 65 and 26.
Thanks for the info!

Randy, this is a great idea.  I can already see your master plan hard at work here.

Me, I do technical consulting for my company, Peoplesoft, but before we were bought by them we were JDEdwards.

I do consulting for customers, business partners and employees for the AS/400, various UNIX and NT servers with regards to our software.  I also work with WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Portal server and pretty much anything that is CNC (Configurable Network Computing) related.

In a nutshell, I take a bunch of unrelated computers and hook them all up together to help our customers make and save money, or more accurately, enable them to spend more with us.

I used to build fences and before that I was a rescue diver and worked at a dive shop in Atlanta.

JR- Pressbox Producer (the morning sho) on ESPN Radio 560am in Denver. I do nothing but eat, breathe and live sports. I've gotta have the best show. EVERYONE LISTEN TO THE SHOW!
Anyway, been in radio and music for as long as I can remember. And if it's a piece of audio gear, I most likely know how to use it, sometimes in ways not thought about by the manufacturer. I'm saving for my Powerbook G4 which hopefully I can write off my taxes, then I can pursue more freelance audio production work with my private company, AudioArt Works. I do voice stuff on the side and well, yeah, there you go.
Later!
