I just saw this on ClubB5 and thought it would be a fun thing to do.

http://www.clubb5.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=750128#750128

So should RMCB5 join the cause?  I think it would be a great time!

I would be happy to.  Does anyone else want to go?

I have a couple friends that live in the area, and I can do some "work" while I am out there.  That might help convince my company to give me the time off and/or help pay for some of the gas.

I am about 95% sure I will do this, so if anyone wnat s to join me let me know.  I can also see about helping with a place to crash for a night or two.

Is the charity just for the sports complex?  I am getting confused by new dimensions site, but then again, it is almost 345am...

I think I will have to pass, as I pretty much give all my support to the Children's Hospital Foundation.

Good luck with your efforts however 8-)

cheers

Check with Joel at RS motorsports.

Post this over at http://www.dubsquad.net/ and they should be able to get you to Joel.  Hell, he may even be going.

I am going to try to put together a proposal to send possible sponsors for this, to donate money for the charity or help cover the cost of the trip.  I have some up with the following local places to approach:

Autosport Werks
Avalon Motorsports
McDonald Automotive Group
Osborn VW
Coors (product hopefully) – That is for you Jay

If you can think of any place else, please let me know.

Well If Julian is planning on coming through Denver, we need to have him stop so that the members here that want to join his parade can and so that those not going can show their love! I say GTG if we can make it happen for him. Maybe we can get his car washed and cleaned and feed him lunch up before he heads back out for Cali.

I don't know, just throwing out ideas.

And no Jon, the money won't be going for a sports complex. The money raise at the ND Charity car show goes for "Second Harvest Food Bank."

Children's Hospital is a very worthy place to donate to (personally I like the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as my 7 year old nephew has CF and he could already have lived half of his life!), but there are other folks that could use the money too.

Anyhow, we can help this guy out with something as he passes through town. It's a good bet that he will come this way.  :-D

Hello RMCB5, I just wanted to come over and thank you for all of your support. I still need to figure out my route, but Denver, CO will definitely be a destination. From there, I'm going to head to Los Angeles for a day or two, to say hi to my mom and pick up some new wheels :)

Anyhow, as I plan my route, I'll definitely be checking in to give you guys updates, etc. so that your group can plan accordingly.

This year, the drive will benefit The Second Harvest, a local food bank serving the San Mateo and Santa Clara County areas, and the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

My hope is that next year, with more time to plan, we can come up with something more interesting, and reach out to different charities.

That's right, there's going to be a next year

Anyhow, you can go to DubsUnited to track updates, make donations, etc.

Again, thanks for all the support and I hope to meet many of you in a few weeks!  :)

- Julian

Welcome Julian, its really a great thing that everyone is doing to get you on your way.  If there was more time to plan for this, I would love to come.  Guess I'll have to make it next year.

Ill donate in the coming weeks before you head out and if needed, make several donations to make sure that you meet your goal.

Just one question though, if you do not meet the $6,000 goal, are you just donating what is available to the particular charities?

See ya around next year,
Steve

So here is the letter I am putting together to send to various local Volkswagen / Audi shops and dealers to see if they are able to help.  I have not sent it yet, as I am still gathering contact information, but I wanted to run it by all of you for suggestions.....

My name is Randy Weber and I am approaching your company about participating in a charity drive to benefit “The Second Harvest Food Bank” and “Ronald McDonald House Charities”.  This is literally a Drive to raise money for these two organizations.  The Route begins in Massachusetts and ends in California.  Members of the Volkswagen enthusiast group CLUBB5.COM, and their local chapters, are participating in the drive and our goal is to raise $6000.00 to donate to these two organizations.

The drive will be passing through Denver and I will be joining the group, representing the local Volkswagen / Audi group RMCB5.COM, for the remainder of the trip out to California.  Once in California we all will be attending the 12th Annual Charity Auto Show in Santa Clara on May 22nd & 23rd.

I am seeking donations for the drive as well as corporate sponsorships from local Volkswagen / Audi business.  None of the money I collect will go to paying for gas or other expenses of the trip; it will all be donated to charity.

If you wish to sponsor my car, and have your company name and logo displayed on the vehicle for the duration of the drive and at the auto show, I would be very interested in making an arrangement with you.

Additional information about the various organizations involved in this great event can be found below.  Please use the link provided to access the website of each group.

If any of you have imput or can help put me intouch with anyone that may be able to donate, please let me know. :D

5/4/2004  - UPDATE

We are a 1/3 of the way to out goal with 15 Days left.  I am chipping my car tomorrow and getting my butt-cheeks ready for the drive.

Thanks to those of you who have contributed, and for the rest of you do not make me come find you!!

Julian will be staying the night in Denver on the 18th and we will be heading out on the 19th.  Chas is going to hook him up with a C-Bar and fill his innards with ribs, so I know his time in Denver will be short, but sweet.

Remember dontaions can be made to my paypal account rweber@frii.com

So are we going to have a little GTG at my place on the 18th to see these guys off and have a few beers? Like I told Julian, the ribs are on me that night, anyone else that wants to come over and meet Julian and eat ribs and talk some BS is more than invited! I do plan on slapping a C-Bar on the bottom of Julian's car that evening so some help would be cool!!

Let's have some fun with this and send these guys off in style!
