Old tires are 225 45 / 17, thinking of getting some less expensive tires in a slightly larger size (235 45 / 17). According to the tire specs, the old tires have: 25" overall diameter, 8.4" tread width, 9" sectional width and spin at 833 revolutions per mile. The new tires I am thinking about have: 25.4" overall diameter, 8.1" tread width, 9.4" sectional width, and spin at 820 revolutions per mile.. Will I have any problems with the slightly wider sectional width on my car ? Car is a stock 2002 S4 6 speed (just ECU upgrade and aftermarket wheels).
The reason I am not buying SO-3's again is the price, $178 a tire (from tire rack, not including shipping and mounting) is more than I want to pay for something that last ~15K miles. The new tires are supposed to have decent traction ("A" traction and temperature rating), have better wear (320 treadwear rating), and cost $101 a tire (plus tax and possibly mounting/balancing- if my buddy can't do it for me free!). Any input would be great, thanks all :D

I have two sets of wheels one with 235 45 17 and the other is 225 45 17. Having run them both recently I can say the only difference I have noticed is a bit more torque stear with the 235. However this will not be an issue for your S4.
I think you will be fine.

Hey Jonathan, I have the S03's as well and really like them. I got them free so I can't complain about the price. What are you looking at now?
I have to agree with Randy, the new ones at 235 won't cause you any problems.

I think I am going to try the new Fuzion ZRi tires. They came out within the last 4 months I think, and so far, no bad reviews (although they won't stick as well as the SO-3's). Traction and temperatire are both A, and treadwear is rated at 320... $101 a tire plus tax, supposedly a very good buy (good bang for the buck), we will see how good or bad I guess ;)

Speaking of S03's, I have 245 40/18's all around on my car. If someone has them in 235 40/18 size and wants to run staggered tires with me, I'd love to do a trade so I can run 235's up front.
Let m eknow if anyone is interested in the next 6 months or so...
