Title: Official Local Mechanic Thread
Post by: ColoradoB5 on November 19, 2004, 10:24:26 AM
I want to provide a thread people can refer to for local mechanics that do good work and are trusted.  Being affordable is important too, but just slightly below these other two requirements.

Please list places you have gone to and would recommend for painting and body work, mechanical maintenance, etc.

I reserve the right to edit posts to clean them up and please only post the details and a short sentence for comments on your post.

Andrew (34k) and I went to Perry & Terry's on 8th a few blocks west of Broadway.

They did a very good job with Andrew's car (twice), and the work on my car was a spotty, but at least it was just minor stuff and their paint work is very good.
They didn't clean the interior of my car well, it looked like someone threw a coke party in there and I spent half a day cleaning off all the wet sanding residue off my black interior.  They didn't put in my bumper light bulbs securely into the housing (it was dangling inside the bumper), and they had to fix the headliner edge twice as it was drooping and didn't allow the rear sunshade to properly latch.  However, Orlando (one of the service managers) took care of me and made sure everything was to my liking.

Autoworks Colorado near Kipling and C-470.
I recommend these guys because they are accountable.  They aren't the cheapest, but aren't ridiculous, either.  I had a very bad experience purchasing a clutch this summer and had to have two installations performed.  Mark (the owner) felt bad for my situation and cut me a deal on the second installation because he didn't want to see me get screwed by the vendor of the clutch.  That's just one example of this stand-up operation that will keep me going there for the forseeable future.  They go above and beyond.  That scores big in my eyes.

2nd on Autoworks Colorado.  These guys are simply the most honest and responsible general mechanic shop I am aware of.  Pat recommended them to me and as he states they clearly go above and beyond what is required and expected.

An example would be when I purchased a set of rotors from their shop.  As we all know, the W8 has very odd components from many different Audi models, especially on the brake setup.  The rotors they gave me turned out to be the wrong size, and I intended to return them when I was down in their area again.  Three months later, I went back to talk with them about brakes for the M3.  I mentioned that I forgot to return the old rotors, and they offered to give me a full cash refund regardless of my decision to purchase rotors from the again.  I ended up bringing back a box of opened incorrect rotors, which they gladly credited me for on my purchase of the M3 brake parts.

Their aftermarket knowledge is not that of a full-blown tuner shop, but they work hard to earn your business.  If you provide them with what you are looking for, they will help you make it happen.  Autoworks will spend the time with you to make sure you are comfortable with your repairs or purchase, and provide you will expeditious after sale response when it is needed.

I give these guys 10 out of 10, for the first time I can truly recommend an automotive shop that specializes in German vehicles. :)

If you're in Boulder, Indian Peaks is a good shop. They specialize in VW/Audi and Saab. I used to take my Passat there.

If your in the springs you cant beat Steeve Mills Racing and ACR they are a very reputable shop that has been doing busness in the springs since the 80's. Affordable prices along with service and workmenship that cant be beat in my opinion. They are the only mechanic that works on my car.

Ill add phone number and address later, I dont have it with me at work.
