Title: Firestone Is Retarded
Post by: 34k on July 08, 2004, 10:48:04 AM
I just got a call from Firestone, who informed me that they can't do my alignment because my car is too low. Anyone have someone else they can recommend for getting my alignment done in the next day and a half?!?

Thanks for the point Greg! I'm taking it out to Stan's Alignment in Aurora tomorrow afternoon. I told them specifically that I had 18" wheels and the car is lowered and they said that wouldn't be any kind of problem.

In case this comes up again for anyone soon, their info is:

I had a VW DEALER tell me my car would not fit on the rack beacue the VOTEX kit too wide.  WTF??

Anyway, glad to know you can get it done somewhere.

your car is too low for an alignment?  WTF...it sits on the rack, tires on the ground, what does ride height have to do with anything.  At least you found someone that is willing to do it and not be tools about it.  Let us know how it turns out, for future reference for those in the club...

cheers

the rack has ramps that you have to drive up on, if your car is too  low the approach angle will be to much and they can damage your car.....so they say no..

They got it up the ramps. They said their sensors wouldn't fit and that the lasers were pointed at the bumpers? I spoke with another place before I talked to Stan's and they said they couldn't do my car because my wheels were too big?

That's awfully strange since there are plenty of SUV's out there with much bigger wheels than 18". I've never done an alignment, but it seems pretty straightforward to me. I'm just surprised that it's this big of an issue especially with places that specialize in this sort of thing.

If you need another place to do an alignment, you can always go to McDonald VW. They do plenty of lowered cars (they thought my car was too high for a lowered car!) with big wheels and wide tires. Talk to Dave Bell.

Just got back from Stan's Alignment. People there were cool and professional. $39.99 for the alignment so not a bad price either.

Ended up with a wee bit of toe-in from the new springs/shocks.

That is a nice price. I might have to go see them...
