Title: Coil Overs BAAAABBBBBYYYYYYY
Post by: 03Indigo on August 19, 2004, 06:57:42 PM
so, after a long week of trying to get it all to work and clear the tires, and not rub my fenders...I finally got the set up working.

no real pics yet, will have some this weekend with all the events, but basically, this is how the MINI sits now.

KW Variant II coilovers
215-40-17 Yokohama Parada Spec-2 tires.
6mm generic spacers in front for now...with custom hubcentric 8mm on the way.

I love the way the car handles, can't wait for tomorrow to try it out finally

Great News Jon!

I can't wait for a ride at the track.

See ya at your place around 7:30 to head on over to the track.

PS - I think we left my car songs CD in your allroad.  can I grab that from you tomorrow?

Sounds like a nice mod.  Glad that you were able to get them set up the way you want.  Adjustable coils (rebound anyway) is a tricky thing.

Congrats, and I look forward to the pics.

I decided to go solo on it, I just couldent wait. 6 hours includeing 3 trips to home depot at about 20 min each.

So not a bad install time, the spyndle(sp?) spreader tool was well worth the cash by the way...

Yeah, when I did Andy's GTI, it took about that long for suspension and sway bar...I think if we had the spindle spreader it would have saved us about 2 hours.....Not a fan of the mkIV suspensions, not at all.....

The think is, my MINI has almost the same set up, and it only takes me 2 hours to do the entire thing, did it 3 times this week, back and forth, sheesh.  The MINI spindle is made to drop off the shock, don't need the spreader...which is nice.

Why so meny switches back and fourth? going from coils to stock and back?

yup, had issues with the wheels and tires clearing the lower perches, and the new tires are .5" wider overall, so I was worried that I would not be able to clear the suspension, and had to adjust them over and over again, I needed to take them up as high as possible.......

it was a pain, but well worth the effort

It always seems like a huge pain in the ass when your tearing it down for the 2nd or 3rd time. But always well worth it in the end.

That little thing has to handle like crazy now 8O
