Title: Garage day- timing belt install
Post by: SweetVW on February 26, 2005, 09:46:15 AM
Can I enlist the help of some knowledgeable person to assist me in installing this?  I hope to do this in March or April at the latest.  Thank you to any replies in advance.  :D

Dave,

I'm looking into paying to get mine changed out. I'm still under the powertrain warranty so just trying to avoid the worst case scenario - timing belt breaks and having to explain how I changed it out myself. I can still help (no knowledge of timing belt change) if all you need is an extra pair of hands.

Thanks for the offer, I may take you up on it.  I do not have a problem trying it myself.  I am hoping that someone who has done it before could help in some time saving and shortcuts that could otherwise make for a long day.

Dave, I would love to help, but with a baby, it will be too hard for me to commit to something.

I WISH I could do mine by myself... the Audi V-6 requires 4 or 5 speciail (Audi only) tools and without them you rick ruining both heads. Luckily I have two Audi techs down here willing to hook me up, I just have to fork out the 200 bones to buy the parts!

I thank you for the responces but I have decided that instead of doing this myself,  I am going to have the dealer do it.  I am going to return the parts and see about getting this done around April.

My change of mind has to do with my nervousness about getting it done right.  I guess Andrew's comments kept sitting with me and I agree, I want it done right.

Thanks again.

Actually... if you want to save a bit of cash check with Wolfsburg Autowerks... let me find their phone number. They do GREAT work and they are also enthusiasts so that helps!

I might call Wolfsburg, since I have a V6.
I'm not planning on replacing mine until just before fall.
