Title: Dropped my wheel off to get fixed...
Post by: jayryan on March 07, 2005, 04:26:22 PM
Met up with a dude from Audiworld and we dropped our wheels off at Woody's this afternoon.
They put my 17x8.5" R28 on the spinner and it was bad. Two bends as a matter of fact. The quote was $150 give or take $20.
There's my birthday...a wheel fix. And I still need tires
I'll have some dumb wheels on maybe by 2012.

ouch - i guess a bend is pretty serious though. Know what they charge to just clean up some curb rash?

Umm...I think Ted (DenverNoob) had some rather significant rash on his 18's and they charged him about $100.
Mark had his 19's cleaned up and could give you a better idea.

Yeah, the bend was pretty sick. It's about what I expected. Still beats paying $250 for a new rim.

There is a funny story behind his rash

All I can say is do not let your friends drive or park your car, unless you want to be throwing down so $$ to get your wheels fixed.

They said I should be able to pick up the wheel tomorrow.

What alloy are they...if they are alloy.  I was under the impression that they only bend once...then second bend is called a break.  My father always used steel wheels on his truck, so that he could bend them back into line after lsome good off-roading.

Sweet work JR.  Post some before and after pics if you can.  I have a few scratches on my wheels and I would love to get them repaired.

It is an alloy wheel. As far as I knew, they put it into this big kiln oven thing, heat it up, and true it back. So I understand you can fix an alloy until it does break.

Winston, I would love to post some before and afters, but I never took any befores  I will just assure you that it was bad. I'm not getting any face work done, but like I said, Mark did and he was very happy with the results.

They just called me. Wheel's now truer than the Bible.  It cost me $160 though...
I'll probably pick it up tomorrow as I don't have time today and it's snowing anyway...what do I need wheels for?
