Title: Hey guys, bad news, Mike Rieger from SCR Performance died
Post by: 92UrS4 on April 12, 2005, 12:07:25 PM
This is from AW http://forums.audiworld.com/rockymtn/msgs/37659.phtml:

Mike Rieger was 21 years old. On his way to work this morning he was involved in a fatal car accident right near the shop entrance. He passed away on contact. I will post later about when services will be held. But until then lets keep him and his family in our thoughts and prayers. Take care and drive safe.

As you know Mike and SCR have been very active in the community since they started up.  This is very sad indeed.

Mike's name on here is: bavarienmotor (http://www.rmcb5.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=profile&mode=viewprofile&u=390)

I have spoken with Mike on and off over the last several months trying to get all the details on chipping my car.  I spent last Wed afternoon at their shop and had Mike do my flash.  Mike was a great guy!

I'm a little confused by the 9news story.  It says the driver of the BMW was killed but later says the   "The woman driving the car had to be extricated by emergency crews. She was hospitalized, but was not seriously injured."

Anyone know the details better than 9news?

Yeah, I think the woman part was about the "other accident" they mention in the article.

It threw me off as well.

What a shame.  Mike was a great guy and a wonderful asset to the local automotive community.  I was fortunate enough to know him from the SCR track events and the GTG's here in Denver.  Always a happy guy and very helpful.

He will be missed!

Anybody have any details on that particular stretch of road and how this could have happened?

No, but I think J-Dawg is on his way there right now to leave flowers.  You might want to ask him in a couple days.

I know it's in Loveland. All the report says is "...rounded a corner and smashed into the truck..." That gives me nothing. Was the truck on the wrong side of the road? Did he accidentally cross the center line? Hard to imagine he'd be out of control of his vehicle at the time. Just doesn't make sense.

I think the video says something like highway/county road 9 and east 1st St.  Check again.

I realize they gave the cross streets. I was just wondering if anyone had any personal experience w/ the particular spot - is it particularly busy in the morning, blind curve, road construction, no turn lanes, sun blinds you in the morning going a certain direction, that sort of thing.

That is just terrible.  I am very saddened by this and hope his family and close friends can find some peace in the fact that he will be missed and touch all of those he came into contact with.

May peace be with them and Mike.

My condolences to his family and friends

there was a pic on the 9news story of a truck (seemed to be in it's own lane) with a mangled fender and quarter pannel.  not sure if the pic was from that accident, and don't want to speculate on a cause, but looks like something drifted over in front of the truck.

WOW!  I am very sorry to hear this.  I heard on 9news this morning of many accidents that looked bad.  I remember him from SCR and how nice everyone from that crew were.

Now he is in a better place and I am sure tearing up some track up there.

RIP

Dave

Very sad indeed.  I know his enthusiasm was a great bonding element for different european clubs.  He was instrumental in making some of the larger gatherings happne.

I never had a chance to meet him, but have only heard wonderful things from everyone.

best wishes to his family and friends....

Shum - The turn in question is a sweeping 90degree turn and coming from his angle (south I'm guessing based on the picture of the truck) he would have had the inside lane and the sun would have been at his back since it heads west after the turn.  If you notice the the buildings in the background behind the truck that is where their shop is.
I have to go with Jon's assumptions and somehow his car drifted left of center and came in contact with the truck. I'm only going by what I see in the pictures and am not passing blame

As Dave said, he is in a better place.

May God give his family the strength to deal with such a great loss.

I just got back from leaving flowers where he was killed.  I met Mike for the first time on Friday, when he spent most of the day riding in my car, and taking me around the track at Second Creek.  What an amazing person and he certainly taught me a lot that day, and now after his passing realizing just how fragile life is.  The few hours I spent with him were enough to leave a lasting impression, which is why I was compelled to leave something and say goodbye.

The corner is a very sharp corner, and with a large mound of dirt on the right when traveling West, I could see how he would not have seen the truck coming towards him.  There are no skid marks which made it difficult to see exactly what happened.  The road is narrow, and looks to be a source of danger anyways.  All I know is that he certainly drove that road several times, so whatever happened must have been out of the ordinary.  I can also say that from riding with him, he was a very skilled and focused driver, and I know for sure he would not been under the influence of anything, he just doesn't seem like that type.

Mike will be missed by the community, and I wish his family and friends my deepest sympathy for the loss of a great person, and loved one.

I was hoping to catch a ride with someone but it is beginning to look like I wont be able to make it.  I only met Mike a few times in passing at GTGs and via PM/email about site stuff and GTG planning.

I would like to pay my respects but I can't control certain things unfortunatley.

I have known Mike now for 3 years, and have never met such a true and genuine person! I met Mike on a professional level when I bought my 525i from him, and continued a personal friendship with him when I discovered his love for BMW's was a deep as mine. We shared stories of cars we wanted to own someday, and cars that he would build that would blow the BMW tuning world out of the water. I can say that I am still in utter shock about this tragedy..........I spoke with Mike on Moday the 11th, I was in Toronto doing business, we had made plans to meet tuesday morning so he could order some custom german plates and get some other stuff from me......had I known that I would never speak to him or see him again, I would have said more.
Even though we were not super close friends who spoke everyday, I will miss him dearly. I would like his family to know that they are in my thoughts and prayers during this extremely difficult time. He was an amazing person, who made a very large impact at a very young age!!
