Title: Need to borrow normal wheels...
Post by: jayryan on April 13, 2005, 02:15:38 PM
My car's modded this time round...anything I should make myself aware of? I'm lowered, boosting higher, larger injectors, intake piping, etc.

Thanks.

Why not, go get tested if you fail you will know whay and what to do.  It;s the risk of modifying cars.  Also make sure you ahve some stock wheels.  They wont allow cars with low pros.

Oh, did the card say you had to get an inspection?  I know they have the mobile stations and you just have to pass by them twice and pass.  Of course if you fail passing them I don't think they tell you. :(

I do have to have an inspection. I drove by one in my Mazda many times last year, but that doesn't help me now.

Is an inspection different than an emissions test? I recall only having to do the emissions test. They don't even look under the hood - just hook a monitor in your exhaust, check error codes, and drive it on the dyno thing. Simple.

I don't think they're running codes anymore...at least I hope not.  Otherwise I'll have to bring my laptop...

Ian

From the "I wanna move out of the front range (http://www.aircarecolorado.com)" website:

OBD Codes:  The Onboard Diagnostic system, found in recent model vehicles, provides codes explaining which engine components or emissions controls are not operating properly. Advisory only.

I don't think they can fail you anymore for CELs.  And a link to the press release here! (http://www.cdphe.state.co.us/release/2003/033103c.html)

Cool. I knew they ran the exhaust but didn't know about the other specs. From what I've heard they do a once-over visual inspection. Thanks for the info. It was pretty self-explanatory the last time I did, but I did some engine work since and didn't know if that would affect anything...

Dang, with my post count and that question, I feel like I'm on Passat World. HAHA!

Their visual inspection will be for emission control equipment.  Big things are the CAT and muffler restriction filler neck for the gas, stuff like that.  They couldn't possibly know that I'm running a 4-bar FPR versus a 3...way too many cars out there to know that detail.  They'll just be looking for the big, obvious things...and smoke too.

I need to borrow "normal" wheels for my emissions testing as places are known to have a thing against 18's and a 40 series tire

If you guys do know of pimp friendly facilites, please, let me know. Thanks.

HAHAHA!!! The Flicks tag another person!  I had to rush back to my storage last November to change out the Filk's and slip into the 15" and go back to the emissions place.

As for emissions testing on low profile tires/cars, I have a story to tell you about my expirence with the GTI.  But that is for another thread.

I supose you can stop over and we can change out my 15" for the 18" and you can take your test.  Honest, I will not drive on them...  Let me know.

HA! You'd like that wouldn't you    I got so excited about gettting them on that I forgot about the emissions thing  I plan on getting it done at the place off of 470 and Quebec I think.

Charles, you're up north right? I might have to go with Dave. I want to do it during the day next week though so I don't have to wait around.

You know I know this guy that can do things for you at the cost of $100 if you fail the visual inspection ;)  You still have to pass the tail pipe though

I have all four of my Factory S4 wheels just sitting here with tires on them.  There is also a testing station about 5 blocks from my house. You are welcome to use them it you like.
