I drove out last year with Julian Fang of CLUBB5 and it was a blast.  We met up with Rusty and James for a quick drive up to Santa Clara from LA.

I can not make it this year, but if you want to go I can give you a few tips on the best route to take.

If you are looking for a killer road to drive here is the way to go:

I-70 West to Utah and then get on to I-15 South.  You will only be on I-15 for a short time, because you need to get off on to US Highway 50 - Westbound.  US-50 will take you through the rest of Utah and Nevada.  At the end of 50 you can get on to I-80 at Reno Via Carson City.  Then you can take I-80 into California and down into Sacramento and then into Santa Clara.

NOTE: Highway 50 is remote, there is very little out there, so do not run low on gas or press your luck in that department or you will be hating life.  the best part of the road is that is it straight - REALLY straight.  There are 40-50 mile long straight aways.  There is nothing but desert out there.  There are very few cars too so driving fast is a blast on this road! :D   I have never driven a car as fast as I did on this stretch of road.

The other option is to drive out by taking I-25 to I-80 and it is a straight shot in to CA.

The drive is about 15-17 hours, but well worth it!

let me add that while you are out there, take the trip for a drive along Skyline drive.   :D   (runs along the top of the ridge west of hwy 101.)  while there watch for motorcycles carving the ridgeline, also plan to stop for food at alice's resturant up there.

down in Santa Clara/Sunnyvale stop by the ND shop (we can all hope Avalon's new place grows into something like that).  Also, if you need food you can find good homebrew and good food at Stoddards in downtown Sunnyvale.

if you need recommendations on places to stay out there, let me know.

(I spend just about every other week out there    so know it pretty well.)
