Title: Stupid things we do!
Post by: RobD on August 12, 2003, 09:18:09 PM
So I'm out playing golf on Saturday at the new course in Golden (Fossile Trace).  Sweet course by the way.  I'm having a good day and approach hole 17.  There's a long stretch of pavement with a tight circle to turn around to the tee box.  I have the cart nailed at full speed (10-12mph?) and decide to take the circle at full speed.  My buddy bails out the right side and I try to hold on.  WELL.....the left side lifts up and decides it wants to roll.  I keep holding on but the force is too tosses me out the right and I slam into the ground and the roof of the cart land on my back.  Pinned I was. (Yoda speak) Against his better judgement, my buddy lifts the cart off me even after discovering I wasted his beer!  I dust myself off and then realize the whole clubhouse, starter and folks teeing off on 1 and 10 have seen the whole thing.  EMBARASSED   but laughing I par and bogey the last two holes.

I was not intoxicated but just used "Jackas$" mentality while driving.  I managed to card an 82 and now think I might have a broken rib or two.  Moral of the story...don' be a jackas$!  Oh and maybe it was good we never set up the golf GTG.

Just had to share my stupidity with someone.

That is Classic!  I had a golf-cart incident myself.  Bachelor party, too much beer and one cart with a broken steering column.  I hate my friends… 8O

Story II:

I arrived at the Portland airport last week around 10am. I had been up since about 5am so lack of sleep may have played a role in this.
I was waiting, or loitering as the case may be, outside the restrooms for my wife when I decided that I needed to go myself.
So I proceed to enter the bathroom. Now the washrooms were set up as one large doorway with rounded, aluminum cased corners. The women's room to the left and the mens to the right. I moved quicker than I probably should have as tired as I was and cut the corner to the men's room too tight. Right before I slam my elbow into the corner to stop myself from running into it, I see a guy coming out or the restroom also cutting the corner real tight.
My elbow slams into the aluminum cased corner with an impact that is heard throughout the concourse, I nearly slam into the guy coming out and jerk myself back with such force I pull a muscle in my back. I barely avoid running into him and proceed on to the restroom.
On my way out I find this family of five, also waiting for a lady, doubled over in hysterical laughter pointing at the aluminum-cased corner. I know they saw me, but made no indication of it when, upon the arrival of their aforementioned lady, they regale this account:
"You should have seen it! It was so funny! He had to have hurt himself! I've seen that hard of hit! It was so funny!
This guy totally walks into the corner- it was so loud- and then he bounces off the corner only to walk right into a guy coming out of the bathroom! I couldn't believe it! It was so loud when he hit the wall! How can you miss a doorway that big! And then to run into someone...."
Ah,'s not really what happened, but I'm glad I started their Wednesday morning off with a good laugh. Stupid things we do...

That reminds me of a time when I tripped over a fire hydrant...

Rob, you're lucky to be alive man.  A friend of my older brother was killed when he was joyriding golf carts one night in high school.
