Title: Phatbox install
Post by: madigan on June 08, 2005, 09:33:00 AM
Looking for an alternative way to install and mount my Phatbox audio system in my wagon, I decided to mount it a slightly different way. I had gotten a few ideas and decided to go for it.

My first-aid cubby was empty and I knew the Phatbox would fit, with slight modification.

I removed the plastic form, which holds the first aid kit in place.

I knew the only way to get the PB in there would be to remove the extraneous metal from either side.

After disassembling the PB, I got out my jigsaw, put in a metal cutting blade and carefully removed the metal "tunnels" on either side.

With the sides removed I then mounted the PB to the plastic form, using the screws, which hold the metal cover.

I marked the holes on the PB and drilled corresponding holes in the plastic form.

Here's the back of the plastic form. You can sort of see the screws.

Here it is mounted.

I cut a small square in at the bottom to allow for the cable to go through too.

I routed the CD cable from the drivers side over to the passenger side, feeding it under the rear seats.

Finally, I reinstalled the plastic form, with PB mounted, into the cubby.

Here it is mounted safe and sound. Works like a charm!

I should mention, I purchased the Phatbox though Byers VW in Columbus, Ohio. They were only $109.90 so I bought two!
