Title: 2002 S4 on the top 10 most stolen vehicles
Post by: aowhaus on July 19, 2005, 07:19:51 AM
you S4 owners watch out:

DETROIT - The 1999 Acura Integra coupe was the most-stolen vehicle last year and Integras from other model years weren't far behind, likely the targets of street racers who want their fast engines, according to a report released Tuesday.

One out of every 200 registered 1999 Acura Integras was stolen last year, said Chicago-based CCC Information Services Inc., an insurance industry tracker of theft and vehicle damage. The list compares loss claims to the total number of registered vehicles.

The 2002 BMW M Roadster was No. 2 on the list and the 1998 Acura Integra was third. Other vehicles in the top 10 include the 1991 GMC V2500, the 2002 Audi S4 and the 2004 Mercury Marauder.

I am having difficulty believing this story.  this list is ALWAYS camrys and accords being most stolen.  It is hard to believe a low production volume car like the S4 could make the list.

I always thought it was cars that were a little older too...isn't the Buick Skylark one of the most stolen cars ever?  Maybe it isn't on the list because they've all been stolen?  8O

In any case, you would think that it would be something other than M Roadsters and S4s.  I see a lot of Z3's and Z4's, but not that many M Roadsters. Integra I could believe.

It's either that, or car thieves are moving on up.

The most I have run across are Hondas.

There were several S4s stolen (http://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/2056000.phtml) at waterfest in NJ this year. Pretty crazy - come out in the morning and there is just an empty parking spot. :(

Maybe by "most stolen" they mean by percentage of cars in existance for that model?  If there are 500 Carerra GTs sold this year, and 50 of them are stolen, would that make it the "most stolen" in their eyes?

This was just released today.  It was mentioned on all of the morning news shows (I couldn't sleep and was up since 4am).
Their stats must be different from other sources, as I remember Hondas, Buicks and Oldsmobiles are typically on that kind of list.

A co-worker had his old Accord stolen, then found it one day and stole it back, and shortly after it was stolen again (he didn't have proper insurance to get any money from it).
