Title: GTG/Birthday Celebration/Detail Day...weekend of OCT 18-19th
Post by: 03Indigo on September 26, 2003, 01:01:19 PM
OK, to make it official, here is the start of the planning.  Our beloved founder and I will be celebating our birthdays, which are one day apart.  We will both be 34 this year.  This is what I propose....

Saturday, October 18th.  Garage Day to work on suspensions for those that need them...or other projects waiting in the wings.  We can use my house...garage is big and heated if the weather goes bad.

Saturday Night...I would like to get together with everyone for dinner, go out on the town, and in general, have a great time.  We could either BBQ here or somewhere else, or we can go out to eat.  I am pushing for BBQ here at my place again so I can fire up some more ribs and have other friends over.

Sunday, October 19th...Final Detail day of the year...here at my house, bring your random orbit buffers, and get your wax on!!! We all need to do this to be ready for the winter.

Let me know what you all think, and we can make more definite plans as things get closer...as to dinner, clubs, etc.  Everyone is welcome, I will also be inviting other groups I believe.

Heck of an idea Jon!

I'll try to keep that weekend free so I can help with the suspension, placing dollar bills in g-strings  and the detailing on Sunday (if we're not too hung over).  My car definitely needs some detail lovin' before the winter hits.

I'll be looking forward to this weekend boyeeeee!

Sounds like an action packed weekend - count me in.

It'll be a birthday-buffing-barbeque-bonanza!

Did someone say "Shotgun Willie's"?

Not sure how much garagin' I will do, I just waxed my car for the winter on saturday, though I wouldn't mind doing a leather treatment on the interior.. maybe I'll do that.
Regardless, I'll be up for the boob action later on. I'll even bring my own set. ;)

Jon - I got my Bilsteins this past Friday so I'm ready for a suspension upgrade.  I'm up for the garage part but will have a hard time making it to the nudy bar.

YAY I got the day off :)  The only event I'm definite on is the post-bbq party out on the town.  If I do come during the day for the garage day for a bit, I'll bring the kids, as I will want to spend some time with them on my day off.  Can't wait to see everyone!!!

Happy Birthday guys.  Glad to hear someone here is older than me :P  (even if only a little older.  Anyway, I will be on a plane back from Switzerland on Saturday, so won't be able to join you.  Enjoy the wrenching and waxing.

Happy birthday guys, I know how it feels to officially be sort of OLD! I turned 35 at the beginning of the month. You can now be called sir and not complain about it, cause you both are old farts.... as my kids and wife tell me all the time.   8O

I can't wait.  Jon, if you want to avoid having to do all of that cooking, Brad posted about the GTG at Sonics here:

http://www.rmcb5.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=381

You know how much I love those ribs, but this would be fun too.  Imagine 20 souped up VWs pulling into Sonic!  Haha!

Yeah, that would be cool too...but I think I will be having other friends over...and I am having a jonesin' for some more ribs.  Everyone is welcome to either hang here for ribs...or head over to Sonic with the DCI group to get their v-dub fix.  I'll be too busy eating to notice if anyone is here anyway

I had an idea for the detail day on Sunday.  If Pat could get some of those shade tents we had at the track day, we could maybe set them up in the driveway or at the curb (if Jon and his neighbors are cool with it) so we have more shade for keeping the cars cool.  Then we can work on more than just what fits in the garage.  Whaddya think?

Also, for the garage day, if there's time and space in the garage, I'd like to (finally) move the spring perches on my front shocks up a notch.  I'd like to see if that evens out the raked look I've got, as well as give me a tiny bit more clearance this winter.

I thought the detail day was Saturday.  Did I miss something?  I plan on attending ALL day Saturday, but may miss out on Sunday.  If it's Saturday, I can bring, Jacks, jackstands, my air tool kit, and a ball of yarn for yo peeps to play with.

I have a 10x10 tent at my parents, but it is heavy and in my current state there is no way in hell I can get it on my own.  I'll see if my Dad can help me load it into my car, but after that I would need some help from you all when i come out there.  Although I don't know if I will be there Sunday, but I could leave it at Jons on Saturday and then someone would be responsible for getting it back to me.

The added bonus is there is probably a bunch of beach sand in there from newport beach, ca.

Dub...check out the start of the thread...Saturday, garage day, Sunday, detail day.  Bring the tents...that would be awesome, and provide extra room.  make sure to bring detail supplies.  I am limited to the number of pads I have right now...I have not ordered any new ones from Griots....all my old ones have worn out.

also, if you have other buffers for detail day, bring them over, the more we have, the better, we can tag team.

You all know the routine.  Jay, I would be happy to help with the tent, and I can help get it back to you as well.  Alan, we should have plenty of time to pull your front end up, no problem.

Jon, what kind of pads should we get and where from?  I'd be happy to get a few since I used someone else's last time.  Will Mike be there to be the detail guru again?

Jay, I can get your tent back to you after Sunday since I don't live far from you.

Mike will not be here  :( ...bummer

I order my pads from www.griotsgarage.com  order number 10626.  That is the orange pad for buffing...the red pad is for polishing/wax.  My red pad is fine, but my orange pad is getting a little tired and I probably only have limited time left on it.  If you order this weekend, they should be delivered in time for the detail day next weekend.

Those are the ones that fit on my random orbit buffer I got from them as well.

Remember to bring polishes, waxes, and towels.  There is a new car wash just down the street that is awesome, self serve, but it just opened about 2 months ago.

Hey Jon, that's why I was asking.  I thought I had missed something and it turns out that I did.  That's what I get for reading at work, hunh?

I will be bringing air wrench tools, the magic bicycle tool for the suspension, my buffer (not as good as the Porter-Cable, but pretty good), 2 floor jacks, 2 pairs of jack stands, tunes, my new ODB2 tool, which I'll just be learning about.  All that and a bag of chips for the BBQ.  How does everyone like Haba˝ero Kettle chips?

Someone brought them to my BBQ and I've been hooked since then.

I figure we can decide the game plan for the night at your place, Jon.

Also, here is something to think about:

1 hei▀ Kartoffelsalat und brotchen (12stk)
2. wax (what kind?)
3. Kw variant2 coilovers
4. mintex pads (F&R)
5. 1ltr brake fluid
6. 1 set of brocks mit super-lippis

what i need to do... (all pending)
install coils and adjust dampers
install brakepads
flush/replace the brake fluid
put brocks on to test damper/rubbing issues (readjust)

sounds like alot, but it really is not that much brake fluid is a 1man job (w/ a pump) and is time consuming, a PITA but not difficult.

I'll be bringing mysuspension stuff for my car but will also bring a full supply of detailing goodies should anyone want to get a head start on their cars.  I will also bring a variety of snack and drink goodies.

I would also like to bring my TT dv and look for some help with the install (read Wiston). :D

As much as I would like to make the evening festivities, I'll have to pass.  I'll do what I can to help my fellow b5er though.

Title: Woo hoo, I could make it to a GTG finally!!!
Post by: aowhaus on October 12, 2003, 10:12:58 PM
Most of my friends will be out of town that weekend so I'll have the entire weekend to myself -- well, the entire weekend to spend on this GTG.

Been neglecting my B5.5 this entire year, so a much needed waxing is definately in order.  Too bad money's tight right now -- I'm yearning for some more mods to do.

BTW, a few weeks ago I noticed a strange creaking/crunching sound and feeling when breaking, accellerating and turning coming from the front wheels and transmitting to the steering wheel and pedals.  I had a mechanic from Mountain States VW do a quick visual inspection on it and found nothing and said it was still safe to drive (they wanted min $90 to do a more detailed inspection when the shop's open).
I suspect it's the suspension (I have the Eibach por-system installed almost two years ago), but lately the creaking sound and feeling has disappeared.  I hope someone could check it out for me.

Let me know what you need for food, I'm more than happy to whip up some sides or some BBQ stuff.
Thanks and I look forward to seeing the Denver crew finally since moving here.  I'm thinking of having a GTG at my downtown loft sometime next month (the remodelling is still behind schedule).

Cheers!
-Alan.

It sounds like there will be plenty going on.  I will be there Saturday day to meet and greet you all and for the first time.  The BBQ and titty bar are up in the air.  I have tickets and back stage passes to a punk-rock show at the gothic, so I might be dressing in my finest and going to get my ass kicked by fellow rockers. :?

I may or may not have an ECU to mess with (see other post for details on that mess).   Otherwise, I will be available for other people’s projects, as I will have none of my own.  I would be happy to help with anyone that could use a 2nd pair of hands.

I have a jack, jack stands, and my limited but effective set of tools to contribute to the community work bench.

Wow, Alan's coming! This is getting serious! ;) It will be good to see you and your B5.5 again, Alan.. I'm sad I may not be able to attend all the garagin', but I'm still down for the evening's festivities. I am hoping maybe I will just show property in the morning. ;) Either way, i'll see all of you at some point on sat.  Also.. i went to PT's this weekend for a bachelorette party.. after seeing puppetry of the penis of course..PT's was actually pretty fun. So I'm not a strip club virgin anymore. All the girls who are coming with shouldn't be skeeered! But then again, I enjoyed getting spanked by a male stripper..

Alan, I saw your car parked downtown yesterday.  Near 14th St. & Glenarm or so?  It looked nice!

I got a question about the strip clubs we might be going to on Sat night.  Are they all 21 and up or are some 18 and up?  I ask because I know a kid in Ft. Collins who just joined the Army and is home for the month before shipping off to Korea for a year.  I used to mentor him and I was thinking of "mentoring" him in the art of titty bars this weekend  :)  If we're gonna be at places that let you in if you're 18, I'll invite him along, if not I'll hang out with him the next weekend.  You guys with more experience with local clubs, let me know.  Thanks!

The only 18+ place I know of is Saturdays, heck i don't even know if it is around anymore, it was really nasty, full nude, nasty old men in that place.

DC and The Gun and PTs are all 21+.

Ok, it turns out I will be there all day Saturday, but I won't be able to make Sunday.  After we eat, I'll need to come down and shower, clean, and then shower (I get dirty at garage days) again.

Jen is still on the fence, so everyone email her at jencorbitt@yahoo.com and tell her how much fun we will have...nothing like peer pressure.

I plan on being there Saturday to hang out, help out and eat and stuff. I need to get the tent still.  However, I don't think I'll be going to the booby bars.  It's too much money for me right now (medical bills) and I will probably be wiped out by then anyway.  At least I will be able to spend quality time with my b5 buddies.

Oh yeah, we will need to have the CU game on a radio since it wont be on TV. :)

I predict that Jen will be giving Winston detailed instructions about NOT posting her email on this forum again.  :P  It's a good thing she's got a good sense of humor though.

Winston had a good point in an earlier post about going home to clean up before heading out to the clubs.  Is that already figured into the agenda Jon?  I'll volunteer my place in Capitol Hill as a meeting place before we go out for the night.  Parking sorta sucks, but it's central to most folks and not far from several of the clubs we'll probably want to go to.

Is Pat going out with us?  I don't think I've heard much from him yet on this thread.  I also didn't hear if he'd be able to get a sun tent or two (in addition to Jay's) for the detailing on Sunday.

(WOO HOO, this post put me at 100, I'm a "vet" now!  Although, I would think changing my own timing belt would have made me a "war hero" or something   )

Yup that was my car parked on Glenarm and 14th -- I was at the Pavillions watching Kill Bill (awesome flik BTW).
I'm inbetween Capitol Hill and Downtown (18th and Washington to be exact), so we could always meet up at my pad and park our cars (there's plenty of street parking here) if we plan to do some downtown partying.
Ops, I forgot there's another Alan here -- didn't think I volunteered to host anything, but I don't mind if you want to meet here at some point.

Goth night sounds cool too, been to a couple around here -- too bad my goth friends are out of town.

So where's this nudie bar you guys are talking about?  Is it the one at Alley Cats?
Last time I went to a strip club I almost got scammed $40 for a lap dance -- I'm kinda tight on cash so I don't want to be throwing around money, unless...

Alan,

Glad we'll get to see ya.  So far, we'll meet up at Jon's Saturday morning and commence a lot of work on several cars.  Then Jon's BBQ with his kickin ribs.  After that, clean up and head out to some titty bars.  We haven't settled on the specifics of those yet, but we'll decide on Saturday and go from there.

I haven't been to any in CO yet, but I spent more than my fair share at them in Atlanta, where pretty much anything goes, depending on how much money you have and which bar you're at.

So, for those that know them around here, I will defer to your experience.

Sunday, I won't make it but anyone that wants to get in on the detail action, Jon will once again be hosting that.  Thanks Jon!

Anyone that needs to get in touch with me and can't find your way to Jons, out Saturday, or anything else, feel free to call my cell at 720-318-5177.

Ciao mang!

Alan W.

Like winston said....we are meeting here during the day for tooling   then the BBQ starts around 4pm for the ribs.  If anyone wants to bring over extra racks of baby back ribs...feel free to bring more over.  I can then get them all sauced up and cooking.

After that, your suggestion of meeting at your place for a check point after everyone get's cleaned up is awesome.   Sounds like you have more parking available than Alan R.....so I would be up for that...and i want to check out your Loft as well.  We will then head to the bars and figure it out from there.  There are other friends of mine joining us later in the evening for the BBQ, and some will be headed out to the clubs with us...and some of them are girls   hehe

Bring what ever you want for grub on Saturday...we need to also figure out something for lunch...I have to watch my budget too...the ribs are spendy, so that is all I am going to be able to provide for everyone.

I am soooooo looking forward to this weekend

We could do buffet style "make-your-own" hoagie for lunch. They are quick, easy and gooood. I can bring lunch meats and veggies, if people want to do this for lunch. Just let me know what you all like and I will pick something up. How may people are planning on attending? I guess I'll have to go through and count. Let me know if this sounds good.

HI-HO, HI-HO TO CALIFOR-N-I-A, I GO

I HATE MY JOB SOMETIMES, BUT IT DOES PAY FOR ALL THE MOD'S ON MY CAR, SO IT IS A NECESSARY EVIL.

HAVE FUN, SORRY I WILL MISS IT.

Mark, that sounds awesome.  There are many grocery stores around, so we can figure out what we need to buy tomorrow, and just get what we need.  I am figuring on 10-15 people during the day, at the most, and around 30 (maybe) for the BBQ.  I just picked up 9 racks of ribs...that should be plenty.  I don't hve much else here...been working too hard to go shopping...but we can get what we need tomorrow...food, drinks, etc.

If anyone understands "when duty calls" it is me.  Sorry you won't be here for the festivities...but sometime in the near future...I am sure we will all get together again.

have a good trip

Have fun in Cali, if you're going to be in So Cal swing by Newport for me and  stand on the beach or the Pier and watch the sunset. It's an old favorite of mine.

As for tomorrow, looks like I may get the tent after all, my Parents are in NY right now, so I just need to go get it, not sure how to get it in my car because I can't lift it right now.  I will also have T-Shirts and Frisbees with me tomorrow for anyone looking to get one or an extra.

For lunch, maybe we should do one of those big Subway subs? I think King Soopers might do them too.  I believe they are pretty affordable and it could feed us all as long as we have snack stuff to (like chips and stuff).

Does anyone have time today to call and maybe check that?  Otherwise I'm up for helping out with a build your own deal.  I am flat broke, but have a change cup that needs cashing in which should allow me to help with getting some food, snacks, pop, beer type stuff.

Jay, either way sounds good to me.  I think everyone is a little tight on cash...a way of life for us all.  So we can all chip in, buy bulk, and eat like kings.  Either large sub or what Mark suggested...I vote for Mark's suggestion, but am game for anything.

No worries about the tent...if it is too hard to get, forget it.  It is not such a big deal, just a thought.

I have some hamburgers as well we could grill up, but I have no buns or toppings...but I would rather do sandwiches...since I will also be cooking ribs during the day.

Looks like the BBQ meat has been taken care of.
I'll whip up a couple big bowls of potato and pasta salad.

I have a bunch of things that needs to be taken care of tomorrow, but I'll definately join up later in the afternoon.
My place is in a state of mess since the renovation is more than 3 months behind schedule, but everyone's more than welcome to meet up later in the night before partying up if you guys don't mind the mess.  We could also start on getting liquored up here since the drinks are probably expensive at the titty bar -- there's also a charming neighborhood dive bar which is cool to hang around for a bit.

Me and my car are looking forward to the detailing day on sunday if we are not too hung over -- Hangovers and orbital buffers are not a good combination!

Well, last night was a great time.  Thanks to everyone that came and watched the naked girls (and guys at the second place).  Sure was good hanging out with everyone.

How did the detailing day go today?  Jen and I slept late, ran a few errands and then went to her soccer game.  BTW, if anyone wants to play co-ed soccer, her team is always short on people, so let us know.

Ciao!

Detailing day went pretty good today.  Pat, (the other) Alan and myself were able to give our cars some detail lovin'.  kt037 and (the other) Jen stopped by for a bit before they went back to Fountain.  Mike Reed even showed up!  My car was in need of a good polish and coat of wax so I really appreciate Jon letting us come over and use his garage and random orbital.

And Winston, I'm really sorry you and Jen had to take a taxi back to your car.  I guess we were just having too much fun watching the human circus at that skanky place to leave.  Daryl will tell you that it was pretty amusing at times though.

No worries Alan!  I knew you guys weren't ready to leave, but when you're done, you're done, so we ended up heading out.

Hope everyone had fun!  Thanks for the lap dance guys!  Brooke was a hottie...

Thanks again (my B5.5 thanks you too!), for a great GTG -- the first one I attended almost in its entirety after moving here.  Great to know I have an awesome network here.

My car is now very shiney and smooth!

The night of titty bar action was a great time -- great to see the spouses and our female consortium being an excellent sport about it.

Hopefully next month we'll have it at my place and we'll do the downtown bar hopping.

YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!!!!!!!  I could not have asked for a better birthday celebration.  Saturday was awesome, having everyone over, wrenching, eating, drinking, eating, eating, eating...sittin' in the sun on a record warm day!!!!  Does not get better than that.

Special thanks to everyone for the private "Sky" dance.  I know she was 2Pat's girl...but we got along famouosly  I finally whiped off the schmootz off my glasses that Sky left.  What an interesting experience it all was.  And for the women of the group that went...thank you so much for being such good sports about it all...you all keep it real for us  :P

I got sun burns on my feet, not as bad a Jay...good food for my tummy, saw some amazing cars, GREAT FRIENDS, new faces...and other unmentionables  ...this is one for the memory books.

Can't wait for the next Wing and Wench night for November...which we have already decided will be at Hooters on Colorado Blvd.

Cheers, and thanks again everyone!!!
