Title: Forum Width
Post by: 92UrS4 on February 22, 2006, 01:49:39 PM
I am testing out having the forum displayed without any of the left blocks. I am guessing most folks don't use the left blocks much, but this does mean that you would need to head to the home page to be able to really access any other portions of the site. I thought this might be beneficial for viewable size for everyone.

Let me know what your thoughts are.

The only thing I check on the left is the PM box... maybe a quick link to that at the top would be cool.

I like the side as it provides quick and easy access to my PMs.  A side question, can you lock the 4 "buttons" on the top (Home, Gallery, Forums, Account) to the top of the window, so they are always available without scrolling back to the top (I know, I'm lazy), like locked cells at the top of a spreadsheet?

looks good.

I kinda look to see who is online, and to see if I have any PM's, but the home page can do that, so I will frequent that more often.

Well you should also get a popup if you have a new PM and I think the top of the forum will show if you have new PMs. I think. This is a test really.

EDIT: Added a poll

Is this a setting that you have to enable?

looks fine to me.  the left nav didn't bother me, but I didn't use it much either.  I'd be fine changing to this format.  no real preference either way.

(don't you love non-commital user feedback like this)

If you go into your profile, there should be some options surrounding PM notifications, like e-mail and popup on new message. Also, at the top of the forum there is a link that probably currently says No New Messages, but if you have a new one it should say at least that you have a new message or how many new messages you have.

It may be because I have pop-ups disabled :)

Possibly, but you could also have them turned off. ;) You can trust rmcb5.com, we wont spam you with popups.

FYI, I just got a new PM, got the popup, and at the top of the forum it says 1 New Message.

Yep pop-ups were disabled... now I should get pop-ups if someone can beat one of my arcade high scores!

I like seeing who is browsing the forums.
When I'm the only loser online, it reminds me to get off the computer and go to sleep!

I use all of the navigation tools at the top of the page, so no need for me to use the ones on the left.

I knew something was different though when I logged in this evening.

Jay, I would like to suggest another mod...

The recent topics thing is very, very cool but in a thread view it is very, very annoying! When I click on a thread, I like to get right into it! WIth this forum, you have to scroll down to get where you were actually going.

Just my 2 cents, but that would be a FABULOUS mod to an already kick ass forum!

Actually, it scrolls you down 8 out of 10 times.

Also, you can disable that in your profile if you don't like it. :)

Ok I think i see what you are saying, if you just click into a thread you hate having the ata g;ance thing at the top, just go into your profile, look for ata  glance, and you can change the settings for when it is displayed.
