Title: Spring Detail Day, April 15th in Parker
Post by: 03Indigo on February 27, 2006, 12:30:07 AM
I have requested Tax day off, since it is also my mother's birthday ;), and I am planning on having a detail day at my new place on Saturday April 15th. áPlan on an early start so we can be done late afternoon so I can then spend time with family to celebrate my mother's birthday.

I was thinking about a start time of 830am or 9am at the latest, I am assuming there will be quite a few of us, so I want to get through as many cars as possible. áI have a 3 car garage with plenty of room for all 3 bays to be used at one time. áWe can rotate cars though for waxing, and have cars outside for interior cleaning. áWe cand then break for lunch, etc. áWe can BBQ or what ever, but it will be a bring your own food for the grill type of thing, or we can chip in for stuff for the grill and get fresh stuff, what ever works.

Things to bring......

Towels
wax
clay
detail spray
cleaners
buff pads
porter cable random orbit buffers, or other buffers you might have.
car vacs
windex
paper towels
extension cords for power in the street

A lot of the tings can be bought at www.detailersparadise.com áThey will help guide you as to what would be best for a good spring cleaning and polish :)

I will have my porter cable available for people to use, but have only a few buffing pads left and I have 3 cars of my own to do....so, if you don't have a buffer, you can just get the pads and use my buffer. áWe can use the hose at my house for washing, as there are no car washes right near the house, but there are some within a few miles if you want to go that route.

here is a sign up so we can anticipate who will be attending so we can plan a garage bay rotation...some people take longer to buff out a car than others, so we want to give everyone a chance to get their car in.

2. DenverPat--Pat
3. Gragravar--Andrew #1 ;)
4. Aowhaus--Alan #1----------------Ribs

6. Dubitup--Alex
7. StarlightB5--Dave
8. Colorado_Baja--Greg
9. Turbodub--Al
10. Eric18T--Eric--pending
11. Jdawg--Jason

If weather is bad that day, we will not do it, but hopefully things will hold out for us. áAny suggestions or things you have to offer for the group would be great, just post them up. áI will give directions via PM's for those wanting to attend.

Jon :D

I'm in!

I also suggest bringing some extension cords, as some of us could buff and vacuum on the driveway.

Jon, is there a self-serve car wash nearby?
or could we wash on the road in front of your house (I assume we will use your driveway for detailing)?

Alan, there is a self serve car wash, but it is a bit away from here, so you can either go there, I will have directions here for those interested in going there, or you can use the hose at my house....should be warm enough.

the list has been updated....and Alan, thanks for remembering extension cords, that will be a big help.

For those coming down, here is an initial taste of where I am heading with the garage.  I hope to have it painted and the cabinets either stained or painted by April 15th.  But you get the idea.  There is plenty of room for some really good detailing.....so we should be able to get a lot of cars done.

Jason? Who's Jason?  just kidding.
It will be great to see you back.

We should start some kind of pot luck list -- I could either bring ribs or burgers.

I already let Nick at Detailer's Paradise know of this detail day.

Bumped into b5 owner today. Has a V6 B5 Passat, mistakenly badged as a VR6 and a Polo, but that's not a big deal. I told him about the detail day coming up. I forgot to ask what suspension he was running. Had some good looking 18"s on his black magic. He was painting his lowers with some black platic paint. For platics. Was looking pretty good.

I believe his name was Dave. Hopefully he'll hook up with you guyas, he said his car needed some serious detailing and he seemed like a nice enough guy.

emails and PM's sent to those planning on attending.  The list is not totally up to date, there are some other friends of members, and folks from AudiWorld that are coming as well.

If you did not get directions, let me know, and I will make sure to send those on to you.

Looking forward to this weekend.  I will be working on the Honda first thing, and the MINI later if there is time.

I have a craftsman 9" random orbit buffer I can lend to the cause.  I'll need someone to meet me to pick it up as I won't be able to drop it off that morning, if you all want to use it.

Guys, I would love to attend, but I have family out this weekend and we're going wheeling again in Buena Vista (my new little sister- adopted in Decemeber/15- has never been).

If anyone wants to borrow it, I have a $10 Pep Boy special (I think it's 9") random oribtal buffer available. It's not the much coveted P-C, but I didn't break the bank on it either.

I'll be home every evening this week after 5:30 except Thursday. Feel free to come by. I'm installing the front Bils and cranking the X too if you wanna see :D PM me if you need directions.

I need some help getting a couple things to the event.  I am happy to lend the power washer and shop vac, but have to find a way to get them there.  Anyone up north have any ideas?  I cannot fit either into my Passat.  I have access to my fiancÚ' Gen's SUV, but need a driver.  Any extra drivers around???

I could just bring my power washer and shop vac.  I think they'll fit in the allroad.   I'll check tonight to be sure.  I know the vac will fit, just not sure about the washer.  it might be too tall.

we will call it on Friday night, depending on how the weather is looking.  Obviously, if it is raining, then no go, but as dry as it has been, it really does not look that bad for Saturday...overcast and 58....I think we will be just fine.

that rain storm from northern Cali seems to be heading our way, but based on this morning's forecast it seems it the rain will occur mostly in the mountains and northeast colorado.  The city will be overcast with a slight chance of brief showers or drizzle.

Seems like the forecast is improving every day.

BTW, I just prepped 10 pounds of ribs, I hope that enough for everyone.
My homemade BBQ sauce makes a good car polish, j/k.

cool.

I think someone should bring ketchup....neither Betsy or I like it, so if someone wants that for their burger, they will need to bring it, hehe.

We could use things like cheese, fixings, drinks, chips, sides, etc.

I am still in the middle of a billion shifts in a row, so I might be able to swing by the store before Saturday.

slight drizzle here, but really windy.  We will just keep the garage doors down when working on the wax part of the cars to keep the construction dust off of them.  I am going to be pulling my cars out in a bit.  It will be OK, we are resourseful and will figure it all out.

thanks for hosting Jon.  It was great to see everyone, and my car has never looked so clean.

Thank you Jon for hosing, and for all the help polishing my car.  It is amazing how it literally looks brand new again!  So smooth.

Good times!

no problem guys, I had a great time, it was good to see everyone again, and finally have a garage day at the new place.  Even Betsy said it was not so bad having everyone around, but then again, she left in the afternoon for 4 hours, hehe.

hopefully we can do another one down here before the end of the year.

If anyone needs help with car stuff during the week, when I am not working, let me know, would be happy to lend a hand.
