Actually, it's just before the gas station, Conoco, which is on the NW corner of Rooney Ranch Road and Morrison.

I'm supposed to work late that evening, let me see if I can switch with a coworker.

I didn't realize the 26th was a Wednesday.  I thought it was a Friday for some reason.  I have school that night.  I'm going to have to hold off on this one.   :(

It stuck in my head that the gas station is on the NE corner, but I haven't been out there for about a year.  Either way turn right where the gas station is at :)

We can always move the date around, but I think I am going to go either way since I already aranged baby sitting with the in-laws ;)

I am in for sure. I'll be bringing the Passat. I'm crossing my fingers for a mid to high 14's pass.

If I go, it will be just to watch...not much into drag racing, but enjoy watching it.

Sorry to tell you this Nickle, but Test-n-Tune days are only on Wednesday Nights at Bandimere and are for everyone who passes a basic car saftey inspection.

You can also go to there bracket racing events (Quaker State E.T. Series) which are held on fridays nights twice a month for all cars.  Thats pretty fun also.

That would be sweet time range!

Best time I got out of my 2001 S4 (all stock) was a 14.891, but I like to say 14.8 ;)  It was my one and only perfect launch I ever got out of that car.

Graduation is May 19th.  Anything after that date is free game.  Anything before that date falls in line behind school.

I like bracket racing.  I may not be fast, but I am typically very consistent.

I agree Josh! I am really hoping for something in that range. The current spec is 252HP and 303 TQ at the crank. the 100 Octane program SUPPOSEDLY should give me 271HP and 325TQ (flywheel of course). Problem is that it's a chicktronic FWD car and even the Eagle F1's just spin like crazy. Not sure how I can get it to lock up well and if it does I'm worried about taking my tranny home in a pail.
common concensus is that 2.0T was underrated by the factory to begin with so who knows. Maybe I'll blaze through at a whopping 17!

You will have to walk down to the line and say hi to us when you get there if you come.

Another cool thing about test-n-tune days is it is pretty much a car show when you walk down the line.  Some times there are even jet cars there getting certified.

215 ain't skinny.  then again, neither is the 4400lb allroad.    Maybe I should just bring the bike so I can get in some 11 second runs.   :P

I was wondering if everyone would like to stop and group up on the upper parking lot around 6:00 pm that way you should have got a couple or more runs in.  Then we can chat for a few and then go back in line as a group.  If you want to do it earlier we could group up at 5:00 pm.

Am I the only Audi?  You guys will take care of me right, it's my first time to a dragstrip and the lights/launch is a bit intimidating. :-)

Hopefully I'll get lined up against someone slow... ;-)

I'm still on the fence, this project I am working on has had me buried in work. Meaning not a lot of time outside of work.

I figure I would like to give my stockie Passat a run in sport mode to see how it does. Of course this is only possible if I have the time. So I probably wont know until Monday or Tuesday next week.

Yeah, all the other Audi owners here think they are to good for the drag strip :P  I am sure there will be a couple sleeper members show up?

Just don't put any sticker tires on your S4 then you normally run during the summer.  I know your stage III+, but sticker tires will just bog you down at the launch.  If its your first time doing the 1/4 mile don't worry about the lights, just stage and try to get a good launch.  That will help you get used to the lights and practice your launches.  Make sure you turn off your climate control, ESP, lights, ect...  You could even leave your spare at home.

I am sure there will be plunty of Honda's, Subie's, and good old american iron out there you will put the smack down on.

I'm actually still on my winter tires, but wheel-spin has never been a problem for me.  I'm actually only Stage III, I haven't done the fueling yet so I'm still sub 400hp.  It's pretty quick though compared to a stocker.

I might switch to summer rubber this weekend.  I'm really excited to go!  It sounds like a good driver could get 13's easy in my car, and 12's possibly.  I would be beside myself to get into the 13's.  I guess an RS6 can do 14.1 so that's my target!  Maybe someone who knows how to launch an S4 will be there and give me some tips or even take a run.  At 210lbs I'm not the lightest either. ;-)

You should be able to beat a RS6 easy; if they run 14.1.  I ran a 14.9 in my stock S4 with a spare and a half-tank of gas ;)

That's encouraging!  It sounds like with a decent launch I should see 13's.  I'm sure excited about it!  Switched to the summer rubber today which gears me down a touch and grips a little better... like I need it. (traction that is!)

Looking forward to running with the crew!  I'll leave the spare at home and I ordered one of those small Odyssey batteries today (mine is SHOT!) so combined I'll be down another 50 lbs or so.  I'll also work on being near empty to give myself the best chance for success.

Thanks a ton for the tips and encouragment.  I've always wanted to go to the strip!

At this point I am going to be a game time decision. My plan, if I can swing it, is to head there straight from work since it is on my way home anyway. I just would like to get in a few runs to see what my car really does stock. Well and of course hang out with fellow enthusiasts. ;)

So I will let you guys know on Wednesday. I have never done this before so I'm not sure where to go when i get there and all that.

Just ask the person at the gate when you pay, they can give you the good directions where to go.  When you go down the hill to line up make sure you go to the line where they are doing the inspections.  Its usually on the left and there is a little hut near the line.

TODAY woot!

I hope everyone will come out and have some fun tonight when we put some "German Engineering" on thunder mountain!

I would suggest getting there between 3:30 and 4:30, so you can get the inspection done quickly and more runs in!

We will meet on the upper parking lot above the track between 6:00 and 6:15 pm.

Leave your spare at home!

Take all the shtuff out off your car that will wieght you done!

There are two yellow lights on the light tree, roll slowly up to the line and creep ahead when you stage the first yellow light.  When the second yellow light lights up stop and you are staged.  The lights will go green as soon both lanes a staged, so be ready!

I'm not sure what time I'm getting there, I'll be running by the house and grabbing my other shoes. I'm have a 3-4 hour polygraph in a couple hours that I'll be coming from in Wheatridge.

Sub 14 second requires a helmet.

Sub 11.5 (I think), requires full protection, cage, harness, etc.

If I recall...

So what happens if you think you are 14+ and you go under 14 on a run and you have no helmet, they just make you leave or borrow a helmet or something?

I would have nothing to worry about as well since my slow poke would be like 18+.

I looked up 1/4 times and it a '03 VR6 stock with a magnaflow exhaust does about 14.something somewhere lower than us so I should be okay. Since I'll have my 215lb butt/spare tire, no shoes, half tank of gas, and no desire to tear up my clutch trying to shave a few extra tenths of a second. I just wanna get going fast and not have to stop at 45mph ;)

I can bring an extra helmet, and I will also have mine.  My best has been 14.8, so I shouldn't be getting anywhere close.

If you don't have a helmet after a sub 14 second run you won't be allowed to run again.  They put a special sticker on your card that identifies you need a helmet.  If you stage without one they will pull you.

JR you should be fine, you will be above 14 in the Jetta VR6.

If you run under 14 you will need a helmet or they dont let you run again.

If you run under 12 seconds you need a NHRA approved roll cage and need to have your car certified yearly.  They might have lowered it to 11.5, but I have always known it to be sub 12 seconds.

Wish I could be there guys, but my VP here has called a meeting this afternoon that will last until around 6:00.  So, no chance of me making it over there this evening.  maybe some other week this summer.

good luck!

Sounds like you need a Fast of your own!  He could help you make your VP understand what was truely of importance!

I have a couple of two-ways I can bring.  And Josh, you may be right about the 12 seconds.  I may be mixing the GRM challenge guidelines.

Found this on the Bandimer F.A.Q.:

What are some of the major safety items I will need as I go quicker?

The following is a list of major items that are required as specific ET’s and speeds. This list is a guideline, and we recommend consulting a current NHRA rulebook for specific details, specifications, and diagrams.

    13.99 seconds
    - Drive Line Loop with slicks (13.00 with street tires)
    - Approved helmet - Roll bar in convertibles
    - SFI seat belts in convertibles
    - SFI 3.2A/1 Jacket in vehicles equiped with non-OEM
       nitrous, turbos or superchargers

    11.99 seconds
    - SFI Flywheel / Clutch / Bellhousing Steel Valve Stems /
       Arm Restraints (open cars)

    11.49 seconds
    - SFI 3.2A/1 approved jacket
    - Roll bar
    - SFI approved seat belts

    10.99 seconds or Super Street
    - SFI Transmission Shield,
or at 135 mph - Aftermarket axles
    - SFI Harmonic Balancer
    - Roll Cage with altered floor pans,
or 135 mph - Window net required
    - Ignition cut-off on all bikes / snowmobiles that exceed
       135 mph

9.99 seconds or Super Gas or 135 mph
    - NHRA Chassis Certification
    - NHRA Competition License
    - SFI jacket & pants 3.2A/5
    - SFI neck collar & gloves 3.3/1
    - SFI flexplate / flexplate shield

    150 mph
    - Parachute.

who is running their snowmobile at 135mph at bandimere?

Damn, that would be some wind chill.

oh, and Josh, I used to have a VP that would understand.  this one wouldn't though.  It is so much more fun to work for car guys.

The last time I went up for a test and tune (last year in June, my one and only time), there was a snowmobile running up there, and he was FAST!!!

Sub 11.5 (I think), requires full protection, cage, harness, etc.

ok on that note i can't make it. my car would be too fast and i can't afford the cage today. i have he Nomex suit and the helment, but  no cage. i will have to wait till next time.

There are normally a few snowmobiles out there on Test-n-Tune days.  They replace the skis with wheels or add wheels and the track is replaced with a smooth one.  They are super super quick as you can imagine :D

There are Jet Cars getting cerified on test-n-tune days also.  Its fun to check those out and watch them run down the track.

Well guys, duty calls, or shall I call it doodie. I have too much left to do on this project to be able to go have fun tonight.

I think it would be great if we could pick one or two wednesdays a month and try to get folks out. Seems like a fairly inexpensive way to have some fun.

I really wish I could make it, but I could use the time to get home, eat and get back to work. :(

I'll honk on my way home as I drive by!

I should make it there...but a little late (I'm still at work)

I'm planning on bringing my video camera, so hopefully I can get some good shots!

Ok so I'm home and I have to say I had a great time. It was good to finally meet some new faces (briefly anyway) too!

So with the Subie in "stock" mode (my chip is in the mail getting reprogrammed at Cobb tuning) I planned on making 1 run, and ended up doing 3!!!

My first run was hysterical...LUCKY guy that I am, I got lined up next to a "PRO" class Chevelle. Yeah...I said PRO CLASS Chevelle...So picture this>>> Old guy in a Chevelle, full roll cage, numbers and decals on the side, nascar netting on windows, giant blower sticking out of the hood, and of course, HUGE drag slicks on the back...

His eff'n car was so loud I couldn't concentrate at all!!! I totally tanked on the start. (Can you say intimidated!?) The light turned green and he practically PULLED A WHEELIE and disappeared!! LMAO!!!  8O

All I remember was looking down the track and seeing his ET appear (through his vapor trail) 11.2secs@113mph!!!! just as I got passed the HALF WAY point!!!...so yeah he PP'd all over me.   I ran a 16.4@88.5  that time...I was crackin up the whole time down the track though!

The 2 other runs I ended up running against a young kid in his Mustang GT. He had a chip/exhaust and just replaced his tranny and rear end so it was set up for the 1/4 mile. Of course I managed to screw up the start on every run (I discovered that trying to launch an AWD drive car on a STICKY track WITHOUT burning the clutch too much is hard as hell!)

I would rev to 3000, drop the clutch (because I'm an idiot and kept forgetting to slip the clutch) and bogg the damn car out because I didn't want to slip the clutch too much. It would then start buckin' like a bronco....DAMMIT!!!! (I was annoyed with myself LOL) But basically I was trying to go easy on the clutch, so oh well. I'm happy I didn't break anything at least.

I ran 16.3@91.98mph for my 2nd try and 16.1@90.12 on my 3rd try (I hit the damn rev limiter in 3rd gear on my 2nd run too LOL) So I am true rookie what can I say? It was awesome though...I'd do it again in a second. There were some CRAZY cars and bikes there. I shot some video so I'll try to post it up sooner or later.

Lots of nice cars...a new viper, callaway twin turbo vette, Hayabusa's everywhere. Lots of "Better Off Dead" Camaros and classic muscle cars and SO many Subies (All WRX/STIs) One in particular had 440HP at the wheels (the turbo was about the size of a bowling ball!) I think he ran a low 12 sec 1/4, while shooting flames out his exhaust!!!

I may have to go back next week...hehe

PS Josh it was good to meet you in person finally!

Al

I've been working on panning, and I got this one pretty good, I think.

It was really run. Unfortunately, it was kind of a flop for all of us. My situation was that on my way to my test, I noticed all my friggin' dash lights going off and knew I didn't have brake lights. Checked it and it was so. I called Osborne and they had me bring it down. They couldn't fix it that day so they rented me a car. I paid $7 to upgrade to an '06 Charger

Bandimere was fun. Here's a tip too...if you don't want to drive your car. Find someone who will let you drive theirs and you only have to pay $10. Of course, you might want to help with the $30 your buddy paid since he's letting you in on run time. I didn't feel right about running the Charger so I was going to run Ian's car with him, but I'll let him fill you in on why he only did...one run I think.

The snowmobile was there and was sub 10. That Gremiln was INSANE cool also running sub 10. The other cars varied from 17-12. Two cars suprised the crap out of me: the first was an almost stock looking [new] Camero putting down sub 12 thereabouts and one beat to crap teal Honda/Acura thing laying down sub 12s- he had a big pink "Shocker" sticker on the back of his car. If you see him, don't race him, his looks beat up, but it's all engine.

Good times. I wish I could have run my Jetta, but I'll do that next time- looking forward to doing it again! BTW: Good job Randy on Chucks car...he spanked another Camero...it was pretty funny.

Hey, that's my car!  What an awesome picture, do you have a larger version I can have?  Can I use it as my sig?

Here's some videos and my slip, if they aren't up when you clip, they are uploading still.

WARNING!!!  THESE VIDEOS ARE 18-40MB.  Please right-click and "save-as" to view.  Thanks!

My fastest slip
(http://www.paralloy.com/temp/slip.jpg)

Jim vs. Cuda? (http://www.paralloy.com/temp/jimvscuda.avi)

Me vs. C6 (http://www.paralloy.com/temp/s4vsc6.avi)

Me vs. Race Civic (http://www.paralloy.com/temp/s4vscivic.avi)

14.2 in cab (I'm getting spanked) (http://www.paralloy.com/temp/14-2s4cab.avi)

My best time was 13.555 which I was pretty pleased with.  I have a stock intake/exhaust and my car is almost silent which made it really fun when beating all those cars that looked and sounded so much faster!  I'm sure it was the quietest 13 second car there!

Had a total blast guys, thanks!

Good stuff!

gollygwagen - I took a bunch of your car.  Yellow is much easier to photograph when it's overcast.  I have probably about 20~25 pictures, all around 2.6MB is size.  I can burn a disk for you and we can meet up somewhere or I can mail it to you.

Thanks for the comliments on the photo everyone.  Here's the Gremlin JR's talking about:

I only did 2 runs.  My first was a 14.772.  My second I missed a shift from first to second and did a lot of grinding.  At the end of the run I couldn't shift it back into first.  When I finally was able to, it felt like the shifter wasn't going as far into gear as all the others.  I got home and did the cable adjustment/alignment on it, and it seems to have helped a little, but not much.  I haven't had an opportunity to take it out and drive it and see how it feels yet.

Think I'll stick to autocross.

It was nice meeting Ian, Gutz, TurboDub, gollygwagen, and some Audiworld guys.

JR it is always fun to hang you ;)

Ian and I got to race eachother twice which was way fun, but he kicked my ass even when he missed second gear :D  I hope your tranny is ok Ian?

Gutz is way way consistant on his time, I was impressed!

I waited for about 30 minutes to see TurboDub run the subbie, but I wanted to make one last run so I did get to see you again.  It sounds like you had alot of fun :)

Well I was disappointed with the GTi just because there is no way to launch it with the DSG transmission.  They need to put some type of launch control on it just like everyother car out this with an automated manual.  The DSG has taken the fun out the 1/4 mile for me :(  I will go again, but I will take my TDI Passat wagon out, at least I CAN power brake it :)

I made a total of five runs with my first and second one getting the best times of 16.190 @ 87.61 & 88.54 and MPH.  Both  times were exactly the same and against Ian :)  I don't know what the odds on that are.

Ian's best time out of his two runs was a 14.774 @ 94.99 MPH and it was his first run, so he could have gotten a better time I am sure if it was for a little problem.

I think I am going to go autocross the GTi with Ian coming up in May.  If anyone wants to go back out to bandimere I wouldn't mind going again just in a different car ;)

My match-ups went as followed:

14.322 vs. no one - Worst time of the day, and of course the one you got a picture of! ;-)

14.227 vs. 12.458 drag prepped C5 Vette. KILLED ME. His trap speed was 89 mph so I think he coasted the second half of the track!

13.997 vs. 14.352 C6 Vette. I wouldn't have held him off for a 1/2 mile! (have video)

13.854 vs. 14.157 Race Civic. This thing was FAST but couldn't get it down in the start. He was closing faster than the Vette! (have video)

13.555 vs. 15.990 LS1 Camero. This was the -kill- of the night. I don't think he knew what hit him.

13.796 vs. 15.100 STI. I was really interested in how they would compare. There was a young girl driving it and her boyfriend riding. It did have a .003 R/T and 2.198 60' so it she didn't do bad. This was my first "burn-out" start of 3 in a row, but my fastest trap speed of 101.76.

14.302 vs. 17.435 new Dodge Cummins. Big time wheel slip, thank got it was vs. a truck!

14.181 vs. 13.234 drag Nova on slicks. My other loss and even though I dropped the revs I was getting big slip. Considering how the other car looked and sounded I was pleased to be that close.

Looks like my 13.555 would have been a 12.574 using that chart.  I can deal with that! :-)[/url]

My best run was 16.190 @ 88.54 MPH which means I put down 172.8 hp to the wheels to get that time.  That is calculated with the weight of the car with me in it (Bandimere has a scale i used).

Didn't get any, her BF was hovering closely, otherwise i woulda tried to at least get some launching tips from her     8)  .... .03! Damn she is quick!  8O

I don't know much about how the ET vs speed translate into the driver's vs the car's performance. My car and the STI both hit about 92 mph, but the STI's ET was 1 second quicker. So if 2 cars hit the traps at 92 mph and one car has a 15.1 secs vs another's 16.1 secs...it that driver error(bad launch/shift etc) or superior hp/torque? Just wondering.

Also with my runs against the Mustang, my speed was better by 6mph. (85 vs 91) but I still lost by about a tenth? Are my launches that bad?? Any info would be great. Thanks!

Remember alot of cars have bad aerodynamics and are affected more at higher speeds, so they will accelerate slower for the last 1/8th mile.  Your car probably has really good aerodynamics so you wont have as much of a problem.

I noticed on your in car video you posted you were shifting slowly between gears.  You have to remember to shift as quickly as posible.  Another thing is shifting stratagies, if you are finishing the 1/4 in thrird near redline sometimes it is better to shift into forth earlier and you can get better times.  Launching turbo AWD cars is one of the hardest things to do. so it just takes time learning how to do it and a bit of luck ;)  I would assume you should be able to get around 2.0 sec 60' times.  What were your 60' times?

Thanks again for the video TurboDub, it was really interesting to see what was happening out back on those "tractionless" launches.  Funny thing was, that was my highest trap speed of the day even though my 60' and ET were down.  It was my first time and some of the mechanics of drag racing still baffle me!

Yeah I knew I messed up the start so I wasn't up for slamming the gears the rest of the way...I was also too busy watching that drag car blast down the track!! It's funny I look like I'm casually driving down the road. hehe I think my 60' times were like 2.9?? Not good!

On 2 of the runs I ran through 3rd the whole way (Once I hit the rev limiter just as I crossed the finish line) another time I shifted to fourth...I can't remember which method gave me the best result...I guess I'll have to go back one of these days and starting writing stuff down so I know what works best.

Next time I'll try to get better vids too =)
