Title: Milltek anyone?
Post by: KevB on June 13, 2006, 08:57:52 PM
Does anyone here have a Miltek exhaust on a 1.8T?  Preferably on a Golf of Jetta.  I'm looking at different exhaust options and Miltek seems fit what I'm looking for.

Thanks,

Kev

Pat has a Milltek on his  A4, I also have one on my MINI Cooper.  I don't want to totally speak for Pat, but I personally am VERY happy with my exhaust and the note that comes from it.  Pat's car sounds GREAT, so I can only assume that it will sound  pretty similar on the Golf.

I have the hi flow cat and exhaust on my B5.5 1.8t and I love it, was having some low end power lack brought it into the dealer cat was bad so instead of letting them replace it with a stock one I splurged for the Milltek, did the exhaust at the same time, Lag is gone car sounds awsome has alot more low end over all im lovin it...only set back 1900 worth of parts + install

sounds awsome=no rice burnin',2stroke soundn, jap yappn import....INSTEAD a nice low growl almost stock but a little louder perfect

I have got the Milltek on my Golf 1.8t.  Next time I would not spend so much on my exhaust, but live and learn.  I do like it, sounds good and it is low key.  My cat is sending a CEL, which they say has been fixed in the newer cats, I just have not sent it back to find out yet.  I have also heard however that a lot of aftermarket cats throw the CEL, but I know a lot of exhausts have not.  If you would like a closeup sound review, let me know, happy to let you hear it.

Andrew (coveredbytheblood) has a Mintek turbo-back on his 1.8T Golf. He'll probably chime in on this.

Personally, that's the system that I had planned on getting for my GTI. If GHL hadn't been running a deal on the GHL turbo-back that I couldn't turn down, that's what I'd be running as well.

That said, I have no regrets about my GHL system at all. It cost a few hundred less durring that sale and has performed and sounds great, imo.

I had milltek and the sound was great.  But from what I have read, for performance GHL>Milltek>APR.  From what I have ready and see, GHL and Milltek are pretty close to eachother.  Plus Milltek has the best looking exhaust tips IMO

I have the milltek catback on my a4 2.8 i love it!
It is a deep growl but when im calm you cant tell that well i haveit
thats why i like it so much. at crusing like 4k it just kinda rumbles.

Thanks for all the feedback.  IMO all the exhausts make about the same power (assuming they are the same diameter) so I am more concerned with sound and looks.  I think the Milltek is the best looking and just $499 for the SS cat back isn't bad.

I'm assuming all those that have replied have a turbo-back, not just a cat-back.

Has anyone else had trouble with CEL's?

Thanks,

Kev

I had a CEL...I installed an extender in the secondary 02 bung and haven't had an issue since.

The CEL's come from the O2 sensors on the downpipe, right?

If that's the case I'm guessing I just need to find a downpipe that doesn't have CEL issues.  On that note I was looking at the GHL as it's the cheapest with a high-flow cat.

The potential for a CEL exists with any high-flow CAT, unless the extension bung is built in, and/or depending on how the CAT is built and what material is used for the "cleaning."

Milltek is known for having a CEL.. it is no big deal, but annoying.  If you do as Ian described above, then no worries.

If I was going to do my GTI again, I would do Milltek.  While I loved the sound of hte APR, the milltek looked better and was a lot quieter.

On that note, I've never had a problem with CELs related to my GHL downpipe.
