Title: MAF Warranty extension from VW
Post by: Wyaka on November 29, 2003, 07:42:36 PM
I just got a notice from VW that they would extend the warranty of the MAF sensor for 7 years 70,000 miles, and also that they would reimburse people for any replacements bought before the new warranty has expired.

That is very interesting.  I still have my receipt from Liberty VW.  What is the process for reimbursement?  Does this affect both the B5 and B5.5?

1999-2001 Passat, and there is a reimbursemant claim form that they sent in the packet. If you need it, I'll scan it and email it to you. Also there are:

Yeah, I got the same notice. Of course I imediately filed it with my other official Passat paperwork.  Hey, who knows, my MAF is fine right now, but it could possibly be toast in the near future. I hope not, but at least I'll be covered. Yeah!!! VW finallt does it's customers a solid!

If not dave, I have a copy of one for you. It is useless to me since I don't have either the turbo beetle or the passats anymore...I got the letter for the ex-wifes turbo beetle, but don't count on me delivering it to her, so it is yours if you want it.

I don't have a scaner, but I will be down your way on Wednesday at McDonald for my 40K service on the Allroad, I can stop by your work afterwards and you can copy it if you want.

Jon, if I don't get one by then, I may have you do that unless someone else can scan it and send it along...

This is good news, but I have one question.... :?

I did the replacement of the MAF myself on the 2000 B5.  I have the reciept for the part (thank god) but how much of a fight do you think VWoA is going to give me?

I am just going to ask for the part cost of $150.00 back and not go for the added $ of the install - after all my time if valuable, but I am not greedy

Anyone else DIYS and have the same concern?

I would recommend calling VWOA.. call my dealership Osborn VW
at 303-237-1311 and ask for service. Once there ask for VWOA's 800 number. They can answer your questions on how to get a refund on just the part.

Unfortunately it looks like it only affects original owners or leasers.  Maybe that is why I have not received this yet.

David, I am the original leasee on my car and I haven't received anything yet either.  I'm going to call VWOA sometime this week and see what the story is.

I think the only people to receive letters are those that have had their MAF replaced by the dealer. You should be able to juct contact one of the dealers or VWOA and get the details for being reimbursed.

Just got off the phone with VWoA and they said the fact that "I did it my self" should not be a problem :D  but we will see :?

i have mailed all the required documents to the address on the letter nad I will just hae to wait and see.

I also asked about needing to be the original owner, and they said no.  The recall applies to all car with the faulty MAF, regardless of the number of owners.  So for all you second hand owners out there, get on it.

So if kraut-sled is correct, and those that do not have a new MAF yet want one (a spare just in case), they should just buy one before 7/70k and get reimbursed now. Sound right? I guess I'm just trying to get around paying the diagnosis fee for finding a bad MAF.

I should be hitting 40K in the next few months, so I think I am going to shoot for having it replaced at service.  If not I might just buy one from Tim and get re-imbursed.  Maybe I'll buy 3!  Just kidding.  One should suffice.

I asked about the Fee for the diagnostics and VWoA is going to pay me back for that too.  Luck for me, I now have a VAG-COM, so no more outragous fees to read codes.

Shummer does make an excellent point though, get a spare now.

Looks like I'm getting my MAF replaced as I type.  My car threw a CEL and I had to bring it in.  They thought is was something with the cam tensioner work they did a couple of weeks ago.  Not sure what it is but when I checked on my ride just a bit ago, JD said Scott (the mech.) was replacing the MAF and possibly the O2 sensor.

I'll keep you posted.

I got the letter this week, and I'm not even the original owner.  Good to know I can get a new MAF if mine goes bad.

Wow!  That is really good news.  I had to pay $100 to have my MAF diagnosed, so if I can get that reimbursed too, that's $258!!!

Nice!

Maybe in that case you should call McDonald and ask Dave Bell.  They may just replace it for free under warranty.
