Title: What seats can I put in a 79 SB and who has swaped any?
Post by: zadieman on March 11, 2007, 01:22:32 PM
My stock seats are trashed and gone. Now, what do I put in????? I had black seats, not going to do in CO with the hot sun. I am thinking maybe GTI seats, grey cloth. I'm not sure what will fit or how to modify. Any other VW'rs got a clue as to what I should do??? Thanks :?

I personally don't know what seats will fit, but there always seem to be lots of Bug seats around the summer swap meets.

My Air Cooled knowledge is pretty limited. However, anything is possible right? Typically the hurdle to overcome is the actual seat base/rails. I have no idea if there is anything that can be just swapped in, but you could always use stock seat rails and find a way to graft them to a more modern seat base.

There are a few air heads on here a lot more knowledgeable than I am so hopefully they will chime in and can provide some details.

Hopefully this link might help you out in your quest for knowledge:

The Samba is a great site for AC VW owners. I'm not trying to turn you away from this site, but the collective AC knowledge here might not get you far. :)

Typically you can mount any seat in the car. I have seen numerous modifications done icluding the motorized seats from the Mk4 Jetta and GTI. My personal favorite is Porsche style seats. It all comes down to modifying the base and rails to fit.
