Title: Any good mecahnics around town?
Post by: 00raver on May 08, 2007, 08:06:46 PM
I live about 10 miles north of Denver. This is my first VW I've had it since Oct. 2005. My car is a 2000 VW Passat 1.8t, I got about 82k miles on it. After doing some researching, I'm guessing it's time for a new timing belt and water pump.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a mecahnic or a VW shop around the area?  :?

See the add at the top of the page - Autobahn premier service - go there!

Randy and Todd are awesome, and do great work at reasonable prices.  I think you will find most everyone here takes their car to Autobahn.

FWIW, although I do prefer Autobahn, there are a few other good shops in town.  Werner's Mastertek, Autosportwerks, and 3zero3 all have a pretty strong following.

Thanks for the tips. Anyone know the average cost of a timing belt change and water pump replacement also? Sorry, I am a noobie.

At the dealer, about $1200. It is a very labor intensive job, You will save money going to a indie shop like Autobahn. Randy and Todd are straight shooters and wont feed you any bull. Give them a ring and he'll let you know what the going rate is.

Honestly, the parts are cheap, it really is labor that makes it costly.

Having watched them do a few timing belts Autobahn is worth the trip. They get it done in a matter of hours, depending on what exactly they need to do, and they WILL be cheaper than a dealership. Definitely worth the time and money at that shop even though they are drug peddlers, ya know that real good drug out there, I think it's called HP

On your car the TB job runs just under $1,000 parts, labor and tax.  This includes all the parts - waterpump, thermostat, and all timing related parts.

If you would like to set up a time to bring the car in pleae give me a call.

Thanks!
Randy
