Title: '75 super beetle and its owner
Post by: SB1914 on June 26, 2007, 01:52:32 PM

I recently purchased a bug and decided to take a search online to find the local clubs and this seems to be one of the better ones. good looking site.

My name is Ian, but the car is was actually purchased by my girlfriend for her use. I'm stuck with hashing out the problems for her, and a big one reared its head today.

it has a 1914cc aircooled motor that decided to cease today, less than a week after i bought the car. I am looking for where to find the best used pull it yourself prices in the area. I've always read of people slapping new motors in these older things and going pretty far with less than 500 bucks. i'm trying to see if this is cheap enough to bother with, or if we should call the previous owner for help seeing as this happened within 50 miles of purchase.

The car had a lot of aftermarket parts on it. a scat short shifter, obviously the different motor, a dellorto carb, a front disc brake conversion and a sway bar. maybe a few other things, but we over paid for it to blow out on us so quickly. so hopefully you guys can help me out here.

thanks for you help

So much for being the only one ;) Welcome to the club, and post some pictures - I'd love to see it.  Is it the maroon one that was on Craigslist?
Sorry to hear about your trouble.  I'd call the previous owner and see what's up.  Be wary of him saying "Oh that's too bad...I've got a friend who's got a shop that can help out..."  Check out (I hope that's right) as there's a lot of air cooled folks on that site that can offer up some advice.

it was on craigslist. it was black though. kinda a cheap job. we've called the owner and his reply was "if i were in your shoes i wouldn't be calling the previous owner about the problem" no help. hes offered to do labor, which is bull. I can handle a 1 hour motor replacement. we were just hoping for help on the price getting f'd on the motor. karma.

i'll check out the link you gave me. thanks, and whenever we get this sucker running i'll go ahead and post pics.

didn't there used to be a colorado aircooled specialty place in aurora? i cant find em in the phone book anymore... but i cant remember their name. its been years though. maybe they aren't around anymore?

Welcome, I was out of town when you signed up, sorry to hear about the issues.

As the other Ian mentioned, they are in the Springs but a lot of good people. Also check out another huge A/C site with model specific forums.

There are still a handful or two old school VW shops around Colorado in both the metro area and the Springs. The sites listed above will probably have links to them all or at least be able to help you get the right info.

Good luck, sorry it's been a rocky start.
