Title: HELP! Body work needed
Post by: grettamcnab on July 11, 2007, 09:37:36 AM
Hello!  I am just about to purchase a 1971 VW convertable beetle.  Everything sounds wonderful but it needs a new dash and a fender replaced which he already has but hasn't put on.  Also, the front bumper needs to be put on and I am going to have it painted.  Can anyone out there help with these issues, perform these tasks or direct me to someone who can.  I feel so unschooled!!!

Thanks, Gretta

Hi Gretta

Sounds like you are picking up a pretty sweet ride. I'm not sure where you are located, but there is a great Air Cooled club in Colorado Springs called Pikes Peak VW Club : http://www.ppvwc.net/ , check them out as they will probably have some folks with a bit more knowledge not only on how to, but where to go.

Also, check out http://www.thesamba.com/vw/ if you haven't already, lots of model specific Air Cooled discussions.

There are a handful of old school VW shops in Colorado that I believe specialize in doing body and restorative work on those classics.

I wish I could be more help, but I have yet to have the honor to work on an old dub like that. I also don't want to turn you away from us, I just want to make sure you can get your questions answered properly.

Good luck and if there is anything else we can try to do to help let us know.
