Title: 1993 90cs quattro

So heres my ride. a 1993 90cs quattro. I am in love with this car. Got it from this old couple up in Boulder with 80,000 miles on it. I've put the last 29,000 miles on it with only two big problems and I expect it to last for the next 100,000 miles.

Haven't really modded it yet, but am planning to get some Euro headlights, K&N cone filter, a reprogrammed chip, and the next time I have $1200 sitting in my back pocket, an RS2 bodykit.
I have had some trouble finding any real performance products. I have tried 2bennett, tap1, 034, but can't find any good parts. Any suggestions?

Very nice ride Mike!

Being NA there are not a lot of performance options short of going for a turbo setup. I mean if you're saving up for the RS2 body kit, maybe think about doing a RS2 conversion on the engine.

Most of the guys listed, other than suspension and exhaust components probably wont have much for you unless you go turbo.

The pictures are great, what a clean car!

thank you! I was afraid of the parts situation though. I've thought of converting it to turbo, but it's just too much I think. Maybe I'll just stick with the minor mods I have planned for the future.

I was wondering if any of you know much about the 90 convertible? I saw one the other day and fell in love. It looks soooo much more amazing. And more options than my car, even though I have just about everything for my model year. A year up maybe?

I also didn't even think, is your 90 a V6 or an I5, if it's a V6 then a supercharger would be the best bet, if it is the I5 a turbo application.

As for the rag tops, it's kind of like what Audi still does with the A4/S4 it basically is a limited production and it should have all the bells and whistles as you mentioned.

Every now and then I will see one in great shape, most the time they look pretty beat. There is definitely something unique about having one.

It's a VR6. Thanks for the info on the convertibles. How much would a decent supercharger cost?

A VR6? So was a swap done? The 90's came with a 2.8l V6, but not the VR6 found in VWs. The 2.8 is a good engine, it was used up to 2004/2005 in the Passat.

As for cost of a SC, well you are looking around $2800 - $5000 I believe going from used to new prices. PES makes one and I'm sure there are some others out there. I'm not sure what issues there could be getting to work on a bit older version of the engine.

I keep forgetting our older engines aren't always accommodated for when it comes to "upgrades." So it may be harder to find something that will work. You could head over to http://www.audiworld.com and search the 90 forums to see if anyone else has done it. Maybe get a better idea of costs associated with it too.

the 90s were a good car.  you could do more to the 5cyl engine than the 6, but you still have options.

audifreakjim over on audiworld had an audi 90 coupe that he managed to massage into running 10 second quarters at bandimere.  it can be done.  unfortunately he just moved from the area but you can still probably find him and others on AW with lots of 90 experience.

lol Aaron, that is a pretty sexy little GTI. When are you going out to Sterling again? GotG was fun, maybe we should hit that up and the Glen Eyrie too sometime. And maybe you'll keep your keys out this time... lol

So i was thinking of getting a newer S4, S6, RS4, TT etc. steering wheel and putting it on my car. Are there really any differences in the look of those steering wheels?
Does anyone have some pics of theirs I could check out and maybe decide?

That is a big undertaking, not the pics, but the change.  I personally don't know of the dimensions of the hub, number of teeth, diameter, etc...and then the airbag issues if your car has a driver airbag.  The wiring and voltage could be different.

Mike I think if you look for a B5 S4 or Audi Sport wheel or even a 95+ S6 wheel you should be able to get it to work. Not as slick as some of the newer wheels but still a nice sporty upgrade.

If you haven't already go to:

Put in something like S4 steering wheel or something like that for the search terms and for the Database filter select Audi 90 / 80 / Coupe.... option.

You may need to play with the search terms a little. I am pretty sure that  there are solutions out there. In my opinion it's finding the one that looks the best with the least amount of fabrication.

I don't think MOMO has anything to do with Audi/VW...MOMO did make wheels for Subaru, and they still do on the STI and Turbo cars.

there are a lot of shared parts between Audi and VW, so I fully expect the GTI wheel to be similar to the TT, etc.

Thanks all for the info. I think I will probably go with a B5 S4 or RS4 steering wheel if I can find one at a reasonable price. I was wondering what you all might think of white face gauges for the dash and how hard it would be to get back to them and maybe wheels like these?

you have those wheels on your allroad right?
Do you have a 4 or 5 bolt pattern?

I like those rims, and they would look great on your car, as well as white face plates, and no, they are not hard to do.  I did them in my Passat, and did blue ones in the MINI.  I am sure there are plenty of write ups on the net for assistance and reference.

yeah, 5x112 is pretty standard for Audi. The TT has a 5x100 bolt pattern, similar to the GTi, Bug, Jetta, etc.  But all the others have a 5x112, but I am not sure about older models.

Other things to keep in mind are offset, so the wheel does not hit the struts or coils, or that it sticks out the car too far.  Not to mention center bore of the wheel as it fits on the hub, but most companies that sell the wheels can provide centering rings made to fit the wheel and your hub so it is a seamless match.  www.tirerack.com is a good source for centering rings, if you know the center bore of the rim you are getting and the size of your hub.

hhhmmm... I'll keep that in mind. Sounds like I may have to do a hub swap in order to get those rims to fit because I have a 4 bolt setup... really something I don't want to do...

indeed. That could give me a chance to put on a big brake kit while I'm doing it :)
It also means I will have to hold off on it for a long while...

Ya, those do look nice, not quite as good as the RS4 wheels, but if I can't find a set of those this would probably work.
And I e-mailed the guys at Hartmann wheels, and it turns out they did make 4 bolt RS4 wheels. Unfortunately they don't have any backstock, just two non-matching wheels, but I'm hoping I will be able to hunt down a set.

I have been looking at wheels on Tirerack and am thinking that these might be good? just wanted to see what you all thought. You can see the wheels on the car here:

the Kazera KZB is a breat option....very popular.  I have seen them on a MINI and a Legacy GT that had over 400 WHP...zoinks.  Get them in the gunmetal or dark color, and the portion behind the spoke is brushed or polished, it will really stand out and look great on a darker paint car.

I agree, 17" is more than fine, plus, they cost less, and you have great tire options that cost less as well....and if your car is not lowered, 18" looks silly with a ton of wheel gap.  Just my opinion though.

Ok, I think that's what I will do then.
