Title: Stasis Ohlins Motorsports installed
Post by: Docwyte on October 12, 2007, 07:36:55 PM
Got the Stasis Ohlins installed today with spring rates of 800/1000.  Ran out of time for an alignment, but Stasis recommends driving 100 miles or so to let things settle before an alignment anyways...

Ride height is a little high, around 26" ground to fender, I'd like to drop it about 1/2 inch more.

Huge difference in ride quality even with the vast increase in spring rates.  You feel the sharp reports, but the Ohlins do a superior job of soaking up irregularities etc.  I was pleasantly surprised and quite happy about it.  I initially wondered if the spring rates were going to be too high to deal with as this is my daily driver, but the ride is very supple.

I haven't had much chance to really lean on the car, but initial handling thoughts are as follows.  The car has no dive or squat and basically doesn't roll at all.  Turn in is *Much* more immediate, to the point that it caught me off guard.  Grip feels to be much more, roll non existent.

I'll have to see what it does on track, but so far I'm very happy with it.

BTW what is the vehicle that you installed this on. Have you put any anti sway bars or Monte Carlo bars??

2001 S4 avant.  Have the H sport swaybars on it.

Took it to the track and it performed well.  What I've noticed most is that unlike the other suspensions I've had in the past on my S4 (H&R coilovers and KW coilovers) these have enough dampening.

So when you're going over a speed bump, the front end doesn't come crashing down and bottom out.

Nice ride, even with the insane 800# front, 1000# R spring rates.

I still can't believe those spring rates.  I am running 448 front and 336 rear on the MINI.

I LOVE hotchkis stuff as well, had it on the Allroad, and a ton of their stuff on the MINI.
