Title: Testpipes...so shiny...

So, I was once clear and now I've forgotten again, what are testpipes? Plus, I'd like to know everyone's thoughts on both.

We have no emissions laws in the great state of Montana  ;D

Test pipes = no cats at all. 

If you're turbo charged, power is there to be made with test pipes, otherwise it's a waste of time.

A test pipe in my car was one of the best mod's I have ever done.  It really helps with throttle response and less lag from the turbo.

Only draw back is the CEL, but who cares ;D

I agree with randy, the best mod i have ever done, and to keep the cel off use 2 spark plug non-foulers and screw them together, then drill out the top one with a 1/2 bit then screw the 2 non-foulers to the second 02 sensor bung then screw in the post cat 02 sensor and no more cel from not having a cat. it has worked on my 01 for 6 months and counting without a cel from the test pipe.

JR -  You could also do what i did. I have the ER 3"-->2.5" Testpipe and then added a 3" HFC down stream. I figure i lost a couple HP adding the HFC but still maintained most of the gains i picked up from the Testpipe will also providing similar emmision results to my car when it was stock. I guess that makes my green side feel better too.  :)

Okay, so PureMS sells one with the O2 mounts. I might have to pick that up and run 3" from the turbo back  :D

aww yeah. My Stromung is 3". It is a bulky sonofabitch, still lighter than the stock setup with resonator, which can cause some clearance problems with my car, but boy is it nice.

JR, FWIW, I have custom 3" testpipe and it has never caused a CEL.  Maybe there are other factors at play.

Cool. I've heard it can be a crap shoot.

I was thinking 3". But my K03 outlet's 2.5" (60mm) isn't it? That would make more sense for me right now since my 3" exhaust was welded to a 2.5" reducer to the cat. It would keep from going into a shop to install it. I can do a 3" when I move to a K04. So I would be 2.5"  out of the turbo to the TP to the exhaust which is then 3".

Would the above be correct?

Yeah, I caught that above. What I can't get a straight answer on to simply put it: is the outlet on the K03 2.5" or 3". I was under the impression that the K04 was 3" but I'm running the K03 and tired of coming up with nothing on internet searches.

Why not call Randy or Todd and have them give you a measurement from one of the k03's they've got laying around?

So I found a TP for $120 I might pick up here after the holidays. How bad is the install? I know it's bolted between the DP and the turbo so no welding is involved...just wondering how locked down those bolts are now?

I'd like to keep the cat in case something happens and I move or something. So beating it out is not an option.

Just picked the test pipe up today :) I hope to do the install in a couple weeks. Then I'll drive out to Missoula and get my programming reflashed  :D

Well Mike came over today and we got the testpipe in. Wow! It's fast. It feels fast. It IS faster with some nice snappy punch now that'll throw you back. No CEL yet...I guess REVO has a "cat delete" option.

I'm getting the car bumped to a conservative stage II, logged and tested over Easter weekend at Warrior Auto Works in Missoula. I can't imagine any more go that it has now. The thing's a rocket.

Mike took a couple photos I'll get up as soon as he emails them to me.

Along with the increase in power the car also growls..almost sounds like a V8.

Thanks Mike.

After a day now of driving around, the tone has gotten a lot deeper. The overall sound is also a lot quieter. There isn't nearly as much drone. In fact, maintaining a constant speed almost sounds stock. Put your foot into it though and it roars.

The gains on this are pretty incredible. There's so much more go. My dad drove it home this morning and just laughed and remarked on the gains as well.

Dollar for fun factor, this is two thumbs way up.
