Post by: bog4rt on January 13, 2008, 04:18:13 PM
i was told that dexcool would be acceptable with G12.  i only added i would say 5 ouncez or so to top off the tank maybe about half a can of beer amount.  should i flush? and get some g12 or do u think this would be okay. of course now i would never do this again....

Being an expert in this field ;)...

5oz "should" be alright, however I would keep an eye on things.  If the tank or the coolant get cloudy, get it out ASAP.

should g12 be clear orange. anyways i put this dex-cool in about 6 months ago and i have had no problems with my car related to cooling.  what types of issues could happen from putting dex-cool in a g12 car. out of curiosity so i can watch...

G12 is pink.

The main issue is clouding of the coolant and rust developing in the block.  I do not have the exact chemical reaction committed to memory, but they do not mix, they react with one another.

Is dexcool the stuff that will actually gel up when used in place of G12?

yes it will if mixed with G12 or G12+. It is not really compatible. If just a couple ounces are added it is usually ok. But when added in larger quantities it just makes a huge mess.
