Title: 17" Macbook Pro: And it's a hit!
Post by: jayryan on April 03, 2008, 07:58:39 AM
Simply put, I LOVE it. I've used them a lot, but I don't know why everyone doesn't switch...

My new work/production machine (CS3 Production Premium):

MacBook Pro 17" HD/2.6Ghz/4GB/200GB 7200RPM HDD and 1TB local storage.

His big sister (CS3 Design Premium):

I will tell you why I don't switch...$$$$. I think they are neato, my co-workers bring theirs in and show them off. Then I look at the price tag and say, well, for what I do my $300 PC does everything I need.

Regardless, congrats, it should do you well.

I went to a python (the programming language, not the snake) conference a couple of weeks ago and was surprised to see most of the laptops were Apples. Next largest group was non-apple laptops with Linux (mostly ubuntu), and last--in the minority--was windows!  :D

This was a group of over 1000 uber-nerds. Which is a clear indication that Apples are not only appealing to the design crowd, but also to the techies.

I like apple, that is all I have ever used, but I am not a computer guy by  any means.  For me, and my ignorance on the computer front, they are easy for me to use, plug and play.  I like that.

They are super easy. And as plug and play as my Linux box. I'm not going to into the MASSIVE headache that is a Windows installation; this driver, that update, this driver.

Anyway, I still have a strong XP2 machine that does everything I need it to do. This one's for production and the like. We needed two powerhouse media machines and with dealing with outside studios and the like, Mac's the language.

If I was going to get "just a computer" I'd get a Mac. I'd pay the extra an now it's going to be hassle free.
