Title: *cry* radio's dead
Post by: jayryan on May 17, 2008, 12:19:02 PM
Not some freak stoppage either. I was on my way back to a conference from getting lunch. Soda spilled, splashed on the face of the radio. It was on for a minute or so then flickered twice and died.

It's been a few hours now with no sign of resurrection. Replace with stock or go aftermarket? (if it doesn't ever dry out and work again). I was just fine with it. I use it for my iPod mainly.

Gotta love the OEM placement of the cup holder. ???

If interested I still got my old 7" flip out am/fm/cd/mp3/tv/dvd unit, lmk

Oooh, thats a tough call, but I would have to say that the indigo lighting is classic and hot, and that I would want to keep that.

but if you did modify, go with a color matched 7" touchscreen!    pricey though..
 :D

Okay, radio really is dead. I'm not sure how it happend, but I can see all "crack" in my LCD display where the soda fried it. I get zilch on the VAG as well. Looks like I'm upgrading :P

I use only the iPod and like it to look subtle. The 7" touch doesn't work for me. I saw this yesterday that caught my eye. It's simple, not to "techy" but does what I want it to do (iPod controller with song and artist on screen):

RNS-E time!

RNS-E time!

That's been running through my head, but aside from the cool factor, I think I could use that kind of money better elsewhere. A stock radio's done me just fine up to now so I think I could even get another stock radio and an ice link and be all set.

Yeah. RNS-E is pretty damn slick, but I was mostly joking.  I cant justify the price to make such a switch either.

I have an alpine similar to that, but the IDA-X001.  Great head unit.

That's a nice looking unit! I like the specs and that its controls are just like the iPods. I'm still torn between keeping the stock look or going after market.

So what did you go with JR?

Nothing yet. I like the sound of my turbo :D Actually, I drive only drive it right now on the weekends and the quick trip up to the park to ride so I've not been pressed to replace it. I'm heading out to Missoula in July and might replace it before then.

Again, I don't know. I like the stock because it's understated and has the dash readout and stuff so I might do that and add an icelink later.
