Title: High Gear, Low RPM Shuddering
Post by: jayryan on June 02, 2008, 07:28:38 AM
Hey guys, a good friend of mine picked up a B5 Passat for his daughter (super-clean). It's a 1.8TM.

In 4th and 5th gears when the car drops to about 2K RPM the car starts shuddering really bad like the clutch is slipping. The car exhibits no other problems around town or on the highway. It runs just fine. Any thoughts?

I haven't had a chance to drive it yet but will later today. I might run some diags and see if anything is amiss but was hoping you guys had some thoughts. Neither of my cars ever had symptoms like this.

Thanks!

Seems like a misfire

Bad gas?

coil pack?

clogged air filter?

bad MAF?

get some codes, otherwise we are just guessing.  ;)

Coilpacks ;D She's at 98K and it's all original so I had her order a new set of packs and plugs. Funny though, there was no CEL with the misfire codes.

Otherwise, the car runs SUPER strong. It needs some interior TLC, but I'd own it  :)

That said, an odd code popped up:

Address 19
Controller: 6NO 909 901
Component: Gateway K<->CAN 0001
Coding: 00004
Shop #: WSC 00028
1 Fault Code Found:
01044 - Control Module Incorrectly Coded 35-00 - -

Here's what Ross-Tech says:

19 - CAN Gateway: -- KWP-1281
VAG-COM Works fine. This is physically located in the Instrument Cluster, but functionally it controls communications on the CAN-BUS.

Look at the last digit in the coding. Add the values for the options together to get the correct coding.

0 - No available equipment
+1 - Automatic Transmission
+2 - ABS Brakes
+4 - Airbags

So, if you want to support Automatic Transmission, ABS Brakes, and Airbags, (add 1+2+4 = 7) = 00007.

So....since the car has both Airbags and ABS, but the coding is 00004, I need to change it to 00006?
